Tourney in South Africa, where the summer is just around the corner, and JD is one of 3 Americans in the field. Besides some of the local guys, he may be the best known.  He says he has rercovered from elbow surgery and is 'good to go'.  Whatever that means in his case.

When i was a boy, elbow bending was considered a 'sport'.  You know 'bending the elbow to bring the beer stein to the lips'.

Yeah, but you can't blame him for taking the money if it's offered.  Sad that anyone running a tournament would extend him an invitation given his past transgressions.

I feel for JD though. I still am a huge fan. The guy has soo much talen it's too bad he let the sauce get in the way of a brilliant career and what could have been.

Daly played (well) on the South African tour from 1987 to 1990 -- before he broke through in the US. So he has a following down here.

Update. JD shot even par, 72,  Round 1. Low score was -7, so he's in the middle. Other American, B. Paolini shot +1 and final yank J Hahn,  DQ for reasons i do not know.

I read that article and would say 'what an ******* rule', pardon my french. During a stroke i have no problem but during an idle moment waiting around and merely swinging your club (oh, small stick also in the vicinity)=U R outta'  here.  What if he had placed 8 dead leaves in a straight row?  Also DQ?

And Ole JD missed the cut.

It's a very simple, straight forward rule.  He should have known better.

Agreed. But I hope Mr. Hahn is not too discouraged, because I'd love to see more young US players giving it a go out in the rest of the wide world. Leopard Creek is an amazing track in the middle of proper, wild Africa and it's mind-expanding just being there. I wish they had managed to seal the deal on making it a WGC event. But the downside of being so remote is the support infrastructure becomes an issue.

Anyway, Schwartzel won again and sounded kind of pissed off that he made one bogey over the 4 days. He owns that course.

Good grief, I'm happy if I get away with one bogey every 4 holes ! ;-)

You and me both!

Last year Charl finished 24 under at the Dunhill to win by 12 strokes -- so I think it's fair to say that the layout suits his eye ...

+1 and then some .   There are legit reasons to quit (injury, e.g).   But this guy quit out of frustration by hitting all of his remaining balls into water intentionally.   He can't even feint an injury like others?   That's just one of his many dumb SOB acts.    And the sponsors keep rewarding him with invitations to tournaments.   Whenever he's on TV, it gives me a reason to channel surfing.
