I do the same. My experience is that pressing the hands forward a bit sets my mind to the result i want.  I want the flat left wrist and the arms extended so this little pressing forwards helps achieve that goal. Helps reduce  flipping, IMO.

I just try to make sure my lower body keeps moving aggressively through the shot, that will generally ensure a flat left wrist.

@Ernest Jones , You mean shifting weight towards the target and turning? Or mostly just shifting weight?

That probably depends on what the individual player needs to feel. For me it's a feeling of mega pressure into my lead foot while ripping my lead shoulder UP and around which obviously is a turning component, but I don't think or feel turn or I get handsy and come OTT. The imaginary "foot switch" feel combined with the "shoulder rip" drags my lower body through the shot, but these are all just feels so YMMV.

I also fall into the forward press camp. Its basically my trigger to start my swing. I think that back in the very early 80's when i was 5 yrs old or so (intro to golf by my dad and grandfather) the tour had more forward pressers...which seemed to be accepted at the time. My concern is that my forward press ends up opening the face conciderably and i become more susceptable to shanks. (among many other reasons)

I had improved my ball striking quite a lot by adapting a forward press, at least that was the way I saw it. Now I am taking lessons my instructor has me bringing my hands back in front and says I was delofting the clubs by using forward press.

For chipping, sure. It's one of the key parts of making a good hands-leading-clubhead contact IMO.

what do you feel in your hips?  that they stay square to the line for a long time and then turn?  or do they feel like theyre turning early on?

I have messed around with it, with the putter as well...but I find that I had a tendency to push the club into the ground...not forward, but down. LOL

So these days, especially with the putter, I hover the club...makes for a smoother takeaway IMO. I get the need for a "trigger" to initiate the takeaway, but I found, for me, bearing the weight of the club helped with tension...and the ability to start the takeaway.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
