What is everyone's favorite time of day to play?

Personally, I love playing first thing in the morning. Especially after the course has been cut. There is nothing like the smell of freshly cut grass on a cool spring or summer morning. The greens are smooth and pristine and the dew is still lingering on the course.

I don't mind playing later in the day as well, but the course doesn't have the newness feel and has been beaten up a bit. Just my 2 cents.

Fairways and Greens.

My favorite time of day would be either early morning, as you described, or late afternoon, when the mad rush is over, and the sun isn't as high in the sky. That is such a wonderful time for me to unwind and enjoy the course. By then, my home course is pretty quiet... I like an empty course, especially in the winter months when its cool and overcast. Maybe you can tell I grew up the the Pacific Northwest.

I just feel groggy in the morning and never play as well. My favorite time to play is about 5 or 6 once daylight savings time kicks in. That way, I can still get in my 18 holes before nightfall.

If it's springtime or fall, I don't really get to play unless it's a weekend. In that case, I'll try to play in the morning.

So basically, I only get to play when the days are long and the nights are short. :/

Agree totally

Mornings are great - just takes a few to warm up and loosen them muscles...

Evening rock for me.Had alot lately.5-6pm over here is great, much cooler, wind dies down and of late the course is dead - almost got it all to yourself.

As i walked off the 18th the other night it was 9.53pm.Reckon i could have squeezed another couple of holes in if i'd have sprinted........

What is everyone's favorite time of day to play?

Hope you don't mind, but I added a poll to the top of the page... vote, everyone! Multiple choice!

Personally, I love playing first thing in the morning. Especially after the course has been cut. There is nothing like the smell of freshly cut grass on a cool spring or summer morning. The greens are smooth and pristine and the dew is still lingering on the course.

That's my favorite time of day as well. Good temperature, usually very little wind, and added emphasis on good driving as the rough is usually still very dewy - and thus much thicker.

I don't mind playing later in the day as well, but the course doesn't have the newness feel and has been beaten up a bit. Just my 2 cents.

I also like playing late in the evening for the same reason(s) as the above, but with the added benefit of an easier rough. The greens are a bit bumpier, but the course usually empties out pretty well.

My home course's first hole plays into the rising sun and the closing hole into the setting sun. I've hit many shots into the sun only to have to guess where it went by the feel alone. I'm usually right to within 10 or 15 yards on drives, and about 10 or 15 feet on approach shots.

I subscribe to the (one of the) oldest saying in golf "any day on a golf course is better than day in the office". This translates into - if I get a chance - I'm there and enjoying every second of it. Early in the morning is charming, due to that feel of freshness, but game suffers until body is in full motion. Later in the day is not as pristine, but game should be better, so it all even itself out for me...

I like it whenever I'm on the course. I prefer the weather to be warm but not opressive so the muscles can stay loose.

I will play at any time of day, but I probably like noon, or just after, about 1pm. I can end up going round the 9 hole course 3 times in one day, on a weekend. Tomorrow is the last day of school before "Summer Vacation" as you call it, during which I like to play at the time mentioned, otherwise, whenever I get the chance, usually about 5pm on a normal day.

Having the sun set behind the mountains is just gorgeous. Very serene. I'm not much of a morning person anyway. Not saying that I won't go in the morning. I'm not crazy! Golf is golf no matter what the time of day. I just feel more relaxed in the evening.

I'm not sure if my favourite time is morning or early morning.

I like to tee off while there is still a little dew on the ground but will be cleared up by the time I get to the 4th. This usually has a finish in time for lunch.
Depending on the time of year this could be 7AM or 10AM.

I don't do it very often, but having one of the first tee times during a summer day is a great way to go. The little trail your ball leaves when putting is pretty cool especially when you make a long putt. Knowing you just played in a much cooler temperature than you would have otherwise and still have plenty of time left in the day is also nice.

I like being the third or fourth group off in the morning, dew still on the greens see the line of putts, plus I don't get going and hitting a shot, people in front slow me down and make me think.

Ah yes the smell of fresh cut grass, I'm with ya there. I personally like playing late morning/afternoon since my body has had a chance to warm-up, my mind is fully on (after all the coffee has kicked in)

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
