Fitting vs. Instruction?

I have wondered about this for some time. If golfer has limited budget to apply on golf game would it be better to spend that money on instruction or on club fitting? Suspect some of that is specific to type of golfer (high, mid, low handicap, etc)

So, if I have some amount of money I can either spend on instruction or fitting and knowing I will at least be able to make some adjustments to to bag based on fitting, where would you put your money?

Instruction. 100%. Imagine this: Beginner golfers, males, one gets an off the rack ladies set and a week’s worth of lessons. The other gets fitted for clubs and heads out alone. Who’s better after the week?

For the most part, clubs only do what the golfer's swing allows them to do. 

Swing instruction is more valuable.

Instruction NO question. If you find a decent instructor they should also be able to help you bend or correct your irons and give general recommendations for woods.

Lead off with lessons. If you have a club or two that really hurt your swing, your instructor will tell you.

I would also say instruction.  My game improved after only one lesson.  I am not at a point where I will be arranging for another lesson.

I would say a qualified instructor. I have taken quite a few lessons over the years. All instructors are not equal. The golf swing happens so fast that it really takes a very qualified one you see your flaws. I think one that sees your ball flights is going to be the best in making corrections.

      Day 18: 2026.01.20 Continuing work on arm raise during backswing. Starting to feel less weird, especially the slower I go. Looking like a busy week so might be the weekend before I can hit some balls.

      It’s possible the graphite shaft has a small internal crack or a delamination. Tapping it and hearing a vibrating sound is usually a sign the shaft isn’t behaving as it should. Since the store wasn’t helpful, consider taking it to a club fitter or a pro shop that can check the shaft flex and integrity. If it’s defective, you might be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.

      It’s interesting how much a 3D system changes your understanding. Observing top players in full detail and realizing the trail knee shouldn’t fully extend is a great example of why being open to new info is so important. I like your approach: not trying to be “right,” but trying to teach correctly based on actual evidence. Makes sense why golfers would benefit from this perspective.
