We have all the details on what was said at Tiger's secret meeting as the PGA Tour elite circle the wagons

If the response to LIV is just to copy what they’re doing, you can count me out on professional golf. No cut events for sixty players? Incredibly disappointing.

College football is going into the crapper with NIL money and free agency..... now pro golf. I know the PGAT has to do something to combat the Saudis but all these proposed changes are a big negative for me. I'm probably in the minority but I will be watching very little golf other than some true amateur events.

This was my immediate thought.  Ignoring the money, the format of the LIV tournaments suck.  I will likely be tuning out if thats also what the PGA Tour turns into

I also thought that and the article seems to claim that the top players are somehow trying to take advantage and use this for their own purposes.   Which would lead me to believe that there are a lot fewer good guys than I though.

and I’m totally agreeing with @jbishop15 here, I doubt i would be anything more than minorly invested in professional golf if the PGAT try and use this as a power grab.  Or they copy LIV.

we’ll have to see what happens.

Yeah. If accurate, that’s disappointing. I hope this doesn’t turn into a competition with the PGA Tour vs LIV on who can set up the most enticing no-cut tournaments for the top players.

Big (oil) money seems hell-bent on infiltrating every big sport out there and make it so much about money that the competitive aspect of it all comes second. It’s not healthy and quickly makes me lose interest in what’s going on.

Perez was one of the 11 LIV golfers named as plaintiffs against the PGA Tour, but said Friday he as "no ill feelings toward the PGA Tour" and that he has removed himself from the lawsuit.

This makes me feel a lot better about what might becoming from the players. It paints a much more competitive-focused picture. I hope its true.

I don't have a problem with no-cut events. I get the argument that having a cut makes it a more difficult or risky thing...but the same thing can be said about having to qualify for a tournament. There were big objections to the "all exempt" tour when this was started, and the arguments were basically the same. But we got used to it, and the fact that a huge part of the field doesn't have to qualify for PGA Tour events is widely accepted now. I think qualifying and 36 hole cuts are remnants of a day when prize money was very limited, and they needed to reduce the number of players cashing checks in order to make the first prize money high enough to entice people to play. With the amount of money in the game now, it's different. I don't see a problem with a two-tiered tournament structure, with guaranteed payouts, any of it. If it's what the players want and the economy supports it, then more power to them. There was some opposition to the Fed Ex Cup when it began, saying golf didn't need a playoff system or an annual championship or whatever you want to call it, but hey we adjusted and now it seems people like it. I hope it's the same with all these proposed changes, if they are adopted, and we can stop talking about LIV and what's good or not good for golf, and just start watching golf and playing golf again.

These are great changes.  Addresses getting top players in the same tournaments more often while not taking away from the schedule or format of tournaments.  Appropriately finances all players without taking away an incentive to perform well.

It seems that Phil and LIV have helped to bring about some positive change to the PGAT. 🤞🏻

He could have done this without being paid by Saudi Arabia. He didn’t even try.

if Phil had wanted to bring about change, he could've gone public with his concerns, or rallied players behind the scenes, or any other number of ways. Phil wanted a $250 million check, and once it was offered, he worked backwards to justify his behavior.

It's a player-run tour, and he wasn't even on the advisory board. He's the second most famous golfer in the world, for Christ's sake.

I think that anyone who believes that the PGAT administration makes these moves without the influence and competition that LIV has provided is naive.

Regardless, I feel that these changes are likely to improve their product and be a positive for golf fans. I’m in favor of that.

This is the kind of competitive thing that you will never see on the pre-paid, exhibition LIV Tour. Theegala made some clutch putts down the stretch to advance to East Lake. Do you think this was important to him? Not only the money but the prestige. It's good that the best are getting paid more, but the PGA Tour is a meritocracy, and rightly so.

I think what Monahan proposed today is an excellent response. And the last thing that was going to happen on the PGA Tour was the ridiculous LIV format. That is the #1 thing that destroys their credibility.

Your post above doesn’t specifically say it, but it strongly suggests that these changes could have been achieved without LIV influence.

I’m not suggesting that Phil (and others that left) went for the money. I definitely think that they did. Having said that, I think that without LIV it’s more than likely that none of the changes we are seeing from the PGAT ever happen.

Edit: I also can’t really say that I blame any of those players for taking the pay day that LIV offered.

    • Very interesting stuff. My one thought that popped out at me is about Scottie Scheffler and the molded grip 7 iron. I would think the chance that it's one of the random ones you can buy from PGA Tour superstore or what have you is very unlikely. I would be astounded if that wasn't done custom for his exact grip, putting it rather out of reach of most of us. The thing about the foam rolling was very interesting. It's not something I've ever done before a lesson at the venue. If I'm feeling stiff or sore, I might do something with a foam roller at home, although even that is unlikely.
    • Well, I am not surprised since the departure of Koepka and Reed.  Also Mickelson taking hiatus from golf hasn't helped any - albeit he is not much of a needle mover these days. Surprising is LIV hasn't offered any contract extension to Bryson as he seems to be the only marquee player they have at the moment.  Oh wait there is Dustin, Sergio, and ???  But these two guys haven't been doing much lately anyway.
