Coming home last night there was a show on the radio ( WDBO, Orlando) called the Cigar Dave show. Its about cigars and drinks, and so forth. Very Alpha Male, late 90's kind of thing. Anyways, it got me to thinking whats everyone's favorite after round drink, cut of meat, choice of cigar, watch or whatever. I'll start it off by saying my favorite pre/during/post round drink is Florida Lager Beer, which is brewed up the street from me. Its a fine lager that doesn't feel heavy and pairs well with a nice Ribeye or NY Strip or as a stand alone refreshing beverage.. I don't do much by way of the cocktail anymore, but I do like my Margarita's on Tuesday night. I don't do cigars anymore but I have been known to chew on a Cohiba back when I wore Dockers on the golf course.

Favorite after round drink = An icy cold gin & tonic.

Cut of Meat = Well, I don't eat beef so it's shrimp... in anything.

Cigar = A good Arturo Fuente or a Partagas Black Label.  Though I only partake on Pebble Beach Sunday as the winner is walking down the 18th fairway, Father's Day and my Birthday.  And any other random celebratory occasion.

Watch = Don't wear a watch... that's what bank clocks (getting rarer) and mobile phones are for.

Car = I like a good Audi with low gas mileage.

Women = Do I have to pick?

I'll save the cigars and drinks for others to opine on, but for me, a medium rare roasted prime rib with creamy horseradish sauce is hard to beat.  I like it witch zucchini, asparagus, and mixed veggies, plus a Caesar salad.  I know some people don't like the fatty party of the cut, but the meat is tender.  Plus, you can put it on sandwiches, in salads, etc.  It's such a nice well-rounded cut due to the roasting.

I've never been a fan of the prime rib except for a sandwich. There is a place near by that has one to die for. They do it just right I guess.

I lived in Asia for 6 years for a reason. I forgot about Fuente's.  That show along with this thread is going to have me going to have me stopping by the cigar shop on the way back from the butcher shop.

Must be a coincidence.  Snapfade, if you ever need to order a good cigar online the place to do so is Neptune Cigars in Miami, Florida.  (neptunecigar.com)   I ordered some Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Maestros, "Cigar Aficionado's" 2019 Cigar of the Year, and they turned up missing in the mail.  Thinking my mail carrier had a hankering for some good cigars.  Neptune emailed me this morning to say they were reshipping the order, at no charge to me and would supply a tracking number tomorrow.  Now that is awesome customer service!!!

I usually play as early as possible so my after round drink is often a cup of Waffle House coffee.  When it isn't I enjoy a cold beer in a glass.  Meat-wise my favorite is a rib eye.  I don't smoke cigars or wear a watch but I have seen people doing one or both on T.V.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

I play at Southland, which is just outside Stone Mountain and a couple miles from Mystery Valley, and Steel Canyon...an executive track on Morgan Falls road.  When I lived in Little 5 Points I used to scrape it around at Candler Park...which I'm not certain still exists.

OMG! Back when the cigar craze was in its full bloom, the Fuente Fuente Opus X was released to the public. You couldn't find a stick around here. My buddy went to a business conference in Philadelphia, and sought out the best tobacconist in town. He found one that advertised its whole shop as its humidor!

They had Opus X for a little under $20 a sick. He presented me with one of them, Best cigar I have ever smoked! Lasted for hours, it's a torpedo, and had a taste I can't describe!

I spent my formative years, the 80's, in Little 5, spend loads of money at Wax n Facts, and skatebaording and tater tots at Zestos. Candler Park GC is still there BTW.

If you haven’t already, try JR Cigars...  If you’re willing to be patient and have a humidor large enough to take advantage of a great deal when it comes along, their Free Fall auctions offer tremendous opportunities.  I never pay more than $5 a stick for a lot of cigars that sell elsewhere for $12-$15 per.   Highly recommended.

    • Yea, but a deeper face makes it not as useful off the fairway. This is why the driver is not easy to hit off the fairway.  For a select few PGA Tour players, it might be good. The concept of the mini driver has been around for a long time now. Very few ever keep it in their bag. This is a guess, but probably because it sucks off the ground. Nothing here looks like it is any different than the other mini drivers of the past.  I get it from Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris point of view. They hit the ball a long way. The odds they ever hit a 3-wood off the turf is like what, a handful a times a year? They probably would hit it 98% off the tee and 2% off the ground. They probably want something that think is longer off the tee versus their 3-wood because they don't hit the 3-wood off the ground much at all.  This is where I say, Titleist claiming "worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck." is more marketing than something that is actually beneficial to a golfer. This is primarily for off the tee.
    • One thing I've noticed with Mini Drivers is that the manufacturers seem like they keep their quantities somewhat limited.  The last two TaylorMade Mini's and the Callaway AI Smoke Mini were sold out quickly.
    • Huh? That's the niche of these mini-drivers. They can still work off the tee and off the fairway. They're designed for and work for both things, which is all that blurb says. You can see from the photos that it's a bit of a deeper face, which I find is more important off the tee than the fairway.
    • This statement doesn't make much sense to me.  So, I think the push and pull between a 3-wood meant for off the turf versus off the tee is how tall the face is on the 3-wood. I do not get how this mini driver would be good off the turf, or at least get the height needed to stop the ball as a normal 3-wood meant for off the ground. Maybe they care more about hitting the 3-wood off the tee versus off the turf. Nearly every strike would be low on the clubface relative to the CG location.  I would take that statement as more as marketing over what you would actually expect the club to perform.
    • No, not that Minnie Driver. This one: It's a mini driver from Titleist, available for Tour validation/testing starting this week at Kapalua. It's available in righty and lefty and is only in 13° models for now. GT280 is a direct result of Titleist’s collaboration with PGA TOUR players on the development and testing of the TSR 2W prototype, which debuted on TOUR at last year’s PLAYERS Championship. With many players seeking an additional option at the top end of their setup, Titleist tour reps and R&D engineers worked with players such as Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris to dial in a 13-degree head that worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck. Now on Tour: New Titleist GT280 The arrival of the 2025 PGA TOUR season this week in Maui brings with it an addition to Titleist’s breakthrough line of GT metalwoods: the new Titleist GT280.
