Why do you golf?  What is it about golf that keeps you coming back?  One of my regular golf partners is a psychiatrist.  After a really bad shot off the tee I made, I said I need to make an appointment with you to find out why I seem to like torturing myself... After his less than stellar shot off the tee, he turned to me and said 'Like I would know'..... LOL

That's funny.

I play for the few pure shots that click off the club and fly exactly as envisioned.  I play for the walk, the good weather, the camaraderie with friends.  I play so that I have less money to spend on other things.

ha ha...

I don't know why I play.   Its fun, exciting, scary, frustrating, relaxing, nerve racking, good exercise,  and occasionally you hit the shot that keeps you coming back for more.

I swear, if I had never spent a penny on golf I'd own my own private Lear jet.  Same goes for never spending a cent on wine and coffee.

I don't do wine or coffee so I must spend it somewhere...oh wait....the wife!  (she's not looking over my shoulder at the moment!)

Funny!

The thing is... we all spend a lot of money on things that seem frivolous.  But it's those things (golf, fishing, wife/husband/partner, kids, wine, home, coffee, entertainment, etc.) that make life worth living.

I. Don’t. Know.

Funny thing is, I haven’t felt like playing the last few weeks. Kids took me to Top Golf yesterday, and I had fun hitting balls, but I just haven’t felt up to playing. Who knows.

The really sad thing is that my wife was out of town for a week and there was Father’s Day plus my birthday in there. It doesn’t make sense.

Maybe it's time to take up bowling... or lawn darts... 😀

Sorry, just trying to introduce some levity.  Did you go through a period of awful golf... decided to take a break?  Maybe other things going on in your life.  Not prying.  Hang in there.  Don't leave the (golf) forum... we would miss your input and perspective.

Does anybody really golf on Father's Day?  I personally avoid it at all cost because that is the day I'd be behind a 6 hour round.   I did it once and won't play on Father's Day.

Welp. I hate bowling. Lawn darts was more about not dying than anything.
My short game had been coming up short all year, but I haven’t been playing bad. I think I’m just tired of playing with pool noodles and the whole COVID-19 scam.

It’s not so much Father’s Day, but some time around Father’s Day.

I golf because it's a really easy, quick and painless way to spend a tiny bit of time two or three times a week. In fact, it's so easy that I find myself having to make the game tougher by hitting balls into ponds and trees. I've found I can also make it tougher by shanking, hitting it fat, thin, off the toe or even whiff it completely. Golfing is so easy that I find myself practicing these same game toughening shots at home. Yep. Golf is just too easy to be fun otherwise...

1.  Sport you can play your entire life

2.  To be able to enjoy the outdoors and warm weather

3.  One of the best social mechanisms in business (or anyone in the real world).

4.  The only accepted reason (for me) to take 4+ hours away from the family to go out and play (and/or drink).

5.  Sport can be played across generations (1v1 basketball vs. grandpa doesn't have quite the same touch).

I wish the game wasn't so difficult and/or frustrating, but I bet that if it were easy enough that anyone could play with success, it would have a different place in society.

That's funny but true.  I don't know why either.

But seriously, I play this mind maddening gamer for the challenge and the solitude.

I know what you mean.  It has to be one of the worst days to play golf.  I played it this year as I had nothing better to do, and I had 6:36 AM tee time (5th one in the morning), but it still took 5 hours!  Geez!  Usually, if I have any one of the first 10 tee times, I will be done anywhere between 3:30 - 4:00 as a foursome.  (Some of my buddies can use speeding up a bit).

The same reason I play chess and pool....infinite variance. It is impossible to have the same shot twice, especially when you consider weather and course conditions.

Nope. She came back before Father's Day, and she bought me a $65 bottle of bourbon for my birthday. This doesn't have anything to do with her. I think in years past when I had a membership to a course, I would just go out and play a few holes on a weeknight if nothing else. I just haven't been in the mood to go fight the masses I guess.
