I guess that was an assumption by me. But, arccos is spending significantly more advertising dollars.  And in a market that is very unfamiliar, even to the golf community, I don’t think that is an unreasonable assumption.

It's also been a lot more expensive.

Heck, GAME GOLF was literally free if you wanted to just use the app.

True.  But people aren’t gonna know game golf is cheaper if people don’t know game golf exists.

Outside of the fact that I got my arccos for free, I wasn’t really on either side of this product comparison.

I mean, game golf currently has a much better social platform. They could have the better product. I’m just saying it’s looking like the future belongs to arccos..

Yeah, a little off topic I suppose.  I was just reading the topic and it got me thinking. Didn’t feel like it was a conversation big enough for its own thread.   Just a small tangent.

It appears that GG app doesn't show distance in meters even if they are ticked in the app's settings. I contacted GG's customer support and got no reply so far.

I hate to say this to the game golf users, because I’m sure it is great for the individual users, and I’m sure you get what you’re looking for from a personal standpoint, but as time goes on, all of the great breakthroughs with the productive use of all this data is all going to globe driven by arccos.

With Microsoft backing the software project, along with the significantly larger user database, I just don’t think game golf is going to be able to keep up in this space.

It it just seems that year over year arccos is going to continue to improve and provide deeper insights and game golf is probably going to get left in the dust.

As someone who deals with microsoft products on a daily basis, they tend to not walk the talk and get a new toy and advertise/talk it up for a year then quietly abandon it.

A couple questions for the GG users if I may:

1 - is there a way to not include a shot in the yardage calcs for a club? If you completely top a 3 wood and it goes 50yds, I wouldn't want that included in my "how far do I hit this club?" information.

2 - would you say that your game is better for using GG or that it drives practice habits/improvements or game management decisions?

I am a data guy and am trying to figure out how much data, what data, and how much time I want to spend gathering it during a round. $89 for the Live setup looks like a good deal, but I'm wondering if it really is driving anyone's improvement or if it's just become background noise and distraction?

 Thanks!

Those are excluded from the distance calculations.

Many people have already said "yeah" to this one.

1. (Edited since Erik had a more accurate response than mine was.)

2. Yes. It objectively shows my strengths/weaknesses so I can practice those. There have been some rounds where I felt I putted poorly because I missed 2 10 foot birdie putts or something, but the stats showed putting was my strength for that particular round when taking into account the two holes where I 2 putted from 50 feet and gained strokes (for example).

Definitely.   I'm not sure I'd spend the $$ on Pro but Live is definitely worth the money.

I can answer this as it relates to these types of products, even though I don't use GG specifically.

1. The software has an algorithm that omits outliers in your average.  build up enough data with a specific club and it has a pretty good idea whether to include it in your average or not.
it will omit both chunked/topped/hit a tree shots.   it will also omit abnormally long shots.  (like if you hit the cart path with a drive, or bladed a 60 degree wedge 120 yards.)

2. Without a doubt.   it really shows you where to focus your practice.

You can take a look at GG when we go to Diamond Bar next week or so.

I have just started tracking rounds with it again. I had been using a friends profile in Arcos because I got one free from him and he hates knowing how he actually plays 😀

Now that I am making some commitment to improving, I'll start tracking rounds in GG again.

I can even help you download the free version for you to test out on our up coming round.

I tried setting up the pro last night and could not get it to pair with my iphone at all. Anyone else who has one having the same issue, apparently you need a lot of light to pair everything up so I'm going to try again later on today. Also it says the divot tool is magnetic and mine does not seem to be, is anyone else's magnetic?

A lot of light? What's that got to do with anything?

My divot tool is magnetic… where the ball marker attaches.

I'm not sure what light has to do with the sensor or pairing but this was from gamegolf support, " Please ensure your in a well lit area, sunlight preferably.", I was directly under a light so maybe solar energy has something to do with the sensors? I'm going to retry tonight, but I don't think my divot tool is magnetic at all.

They're just trying to make sure you're able to get a GPS signal. If you're in a tunnel or beneath heavy foliage it's very difficult.

Indoors it's difficult or impossible to get a GPS signal, too.

    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.

    • Thanks man, sometimes it’s hard to improve bc when I’m not feeling comfortable I don’t like practicing bc I get frustrated. Any advice?
