Hello all,

As English is my second language, I hope you will allow for grammar mistakes.

I love the spell correction!

I recently bought a set of Honma Irons from Wish.com and as they were only 650$, I think they were worth the risk.

They came in November, so I only had one chance to try the 9 iron on the range.

Wow!

I was hitting the 9 120 metres+. for a Mädel thats not bad.

My question...

A friend told me that honma mess with the lofts and I should consider a 9 from this set equivalent to an 8 from other sets.

Is this true?

Welcome to TheSandTrap!

I don't know about Honma in particular, but many newer irons have stronger lofts than irons have traditionally had.  I know this is true of the Titleist T200 irons that I started using early this past year.     What matters isn't really the number on the club, its that you know how far each club goes.

Welcome to the forum. As Dave said it really doesn't matter what the lofts are. As long as you know how far you hit each club.
If you really want to know the lofts it is usually pretty easy to get the specifications for sets of irons on-line.

Honma, like every other manufacturer of golf equipment, has some sets that are strong lofted and some that are traditional lofted. I don't know which set you have, but with Honma the Beres irons tend to be stronger lofts where as the TW 747's are more traditional.

Either way, enjoy them.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Not totally on topic , but I believe Wish sell a lot of fake clubs.

Rick Shiels bought a Taylormade driver from wish and it was so bad that the injection ports on the club face were just painted on.  Unless the Honma irons are an older model I'd get them checked although if they are fake getting a refund from wish may be tough.

Like has been said, if a deal looks to good to be true it probably is. Hope they are genuine though.

I'm looking forward to the course opening around April so that I can try them properly. Nearest driving range is 100 km. I'm not that desperate. Set looks really good. No paint jobs or plastic trimming.

This was a one off deal.

To be continued...

    • the rules have changed, but this would fall under 11.2 in the current rules.  General Penalty to any player who deliberately deflects a ball in motion, and you must replay the putt.
    • Day 250 4-29 Getting chest through with speed on downswing and wrist arch. Also worked on some moving the pelvis slightly away in the backswing. Feel like im going too fast and long, looks like it on the recordings too.
    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
