That the middle three popped up on my second word was especially gratifying. The yellow was a different letter and there weren't many optinos for the last letter I could think of, so I managed a three today. Lovely!

By the way, I've started to adjust my strategy a bit. If my first guess gives me enough letters to narrow it down, I'm starting to try to find the answer right away instead of trying a second, completely new word. I'm not worried about missing the answer in those cases. If the first word doesn't give me much, I'll try a completely different second word.

We'll see if this bites me later when I get overconfident, and it's a tough word. But I've been able to get a couple of them in 2 now, and I haven't had to stress over any when I get enough with the first word.

Generally speaking this is fine, but when it can bite you is if you get a word like HALLS. If you have the ALLS and not the fifth letter, it could be BALLS, CALLS, FALLS, HALLS, MALLS, WALLS which is very hard to get if you're guessing one letter at a time. If you guessed BEACH as a different word, it picks off three of those possibilities in one go.

I haven't seen anything like this in wordle, but in the other one that I linked earlier I see these frequently and it's usually why I lose.

I would have this problem either way with words like that. My first word tends to be something like raise, astir, adieu, and then my second word is something like cough or laugh. I guess we're relying on the creator not being too spiteful with all these strategies.

My new policy is to start with LATER, then do COINS, and then if I don't have much to go on I do PUDGY. That gives me 15 different letters, including I think most of the most common ones. I believe LATER and COINS cover the ten most common letters. After that it's do what I can

Got lucky with my first two words, which made solving today's puzzle easy. My strategy is to put in words with common letters and if possible no overlap between them on the first 2 or 3 tries to discover as many letters as possible, and then work out the rest from there.

    • Day 23 - Back to full swing work, trying to swing loose and feel the club head.
    • Yet here we are. I don’t disagree that we should expect spectators to behave on any event, not just The Masters, but that’s not the case. There’s a sea of phones out there on any other event and a lot more incidents with spectators. Why shouldn’t we praise decent behaviour when it is often lacking in these days? There are plenty of golf related events to write negative articles about. I like when there is positivity to write about instead. Not that I expect them to behave at any other event like they do at Augusta just because it gets praise, but it’s nice to see positive spin on things. There are more than enough articles about rowdy spectators and cheating players. I think you nailed it in the first line: “grumpy old man”. 😉
    • Day 275: mirror work for a bit while watching TV. Working on cleaning up a few things in my lower body stuff.
    • Yeah, I take your point. Perhaps you've just identified the other side of the same coin: maybe there is very little to celebrate about pro golfers as people, so the golf media are clutching at straws trying to find something.
    • Go ahead and name three things that, in the world of golf, have been more praise-worthy in the last three months. I'll wait. It's not like they got Congressional medals or something.
