I can see it now - the grandkids are looking in your garage and one of them says, "TaylorMade Penta, I wonder if those were good golf balls. I wonder why papa never used them? Let's go hit them off the O2 generator into the grey water recyle pond!"

If I wait to be worthy of hitting the odd Tour ball, I'd never do it. I picked up a box of Wilson Staff FG Tours even though I still can't seem to finish a round with the same ball.

LOL, thanks for the laugh. You're probably right and at the rate I'm going I should add them to my will. I wouldn't mind if I just lost 1 or 2 balls a round, but the last round I played (before taking any lessons) I lost 10 new Nike Vapor Speeds. I don't mind spending money on good gear, and fortunately I can afford it, but at $4 a ball it just seems wasteful to use these balls when I likely won't gain any real benefit.

I bought a dozen Yellow Z-Star Srixon balls and love them.
Had my 46 1/2" SuperFast driver cut to 45" and put a oversized grip on it. I like it a lot better this way!
I bought a groove sharpener too.

What is it you like about them? I've looked at them a couple of times because of the "yellow," but can't pull the trigger on a $45 a dozen golf ball. When they finally make one that's yellow around $25 I plan on trying them out. <--- I saw some Top Flite's that were yellow and cheap, but I just can't stand most of their balls. I'm betting the yellow on the Srixon looks a lot better than the Rock Flite yellow too....

What do I like about the Srixon Yellow Z-Star?
I didn't have to mark my ball because I was the only one in our group that was playing a yellow ball.
They spin and stop on the green like any other quality ball.
They are very visable when they roll into the second cut or even OB.
They don't seem to cut as easily as some other soft feeling balls.
I think they look .

Had Tour Wrap grips put on my new wedge and hybrid, plus the 3W I never got around to putting one on. Now everything in the bag has a matching grip, except the driver and putter. W00t. In and out of the shop in about 15 minutes, and they didn't mind my almost 4-year old practicing with their putters while we waited. Great service!

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

    • I've been a Footjoy man for several years.  They last well, but I also rotate between 4-6 shoes (yes, I have several pairs of golf shoes).  I often buy insoles with each new pair too.   Then they're comfortable!
    • Day 187 (05 Nov 24) -  Got in some time with the 4&5 hybrids in the backyard - hitting hard foam balls.  Rehearsing preshot routine, focusing on tempo, by reenacting some of the shorter par 4s at my regular course - hybrid off the tee, hybrid approaches.
    • Day 36 - 2024-11-05 Went downtown for a little over three hours. 90 minutes of that was doing other stuff, but I got a little practice in. Some messing with GSPro (v3 is now out) and the settings, some chipping, some little stuff. Not a ton of full swing stuff, and what I did there was mostly backswing stuff.
    • Great point - my experience from the 2004 Oakland Hills Ryder Cup. I got 4 tickets for Friday, had some buddies go with me and we saw shots on about 4 holes. You really have to decide who you want to see, then try to jump ahead to see them somewhere on the back 9. If you got into the grandstands then you'd likely have a good view only of that green/tee box.  Sidenote: I knew a guy who was a member at Birmingham CC, and he was a marshal on the 18th hole and he was out there all day, both morning and afternoon groups. And he had 1 group play the hole in the morning and another in the afternoon. Huge corporate tents around the 18 green, along with some grandstands. And you get to see maybe 6 or 7 shots counting the approach and putts.  Learned my lesson, I have no issue in going to another Ryder Cup, especially at the prices they want for 2025. I think it was $40 for a practice round (went to one of those as well) and maybe $75 for Friday/Saturday, $100 for Sunday. And it was "limited" to 20,000 tickets/day, which is still very crowded to follow 4 pairings around the course.
    • Of course he can score in the low 70's in a really short course driving it that short. But the course rating is going to be in the 60's so is not like he can call himself a scratch player.
