I spent a few hours at the Golfsmith store today couldn't afford anything though. I am a freshman in high school trying to make the high school golf team. I have been working really hard this summer with the local golf club manager to improve my skills. However I inherited my dad's(who is not much of a golfer) Top Flite clubs. I play golf with a bunch of guys who play with the best equipment. I know I am new to the sport, but I am in love with the game of golf. I know this is unconventional, but I am looking for someone in the local DFW area that loves golf as much as I do and would like to see a young man succeed by sponsoring me with better golf equipment. I am a straight A student, I am in band which I have several awards for, I recieved the Principal's Award 2009/2010 school year and I am a good kid with good morals and values. I come from a christian home but my parents are middle class and have the expense of my trombone lessons and instrument. If anyone is willing to "Sponsor" me and get me set up with better equipment I would greatly appreciate it. Just reply to my thread. Thank you in advance

You left-handers really get the shaft on golf clubs. Makes me glad I play golf the right way...

No kidding, it's rough. I learned to bowl right handed because no bowling alley has house balls for left handers. I went to Golfsmith today to look at clubs. The store perimeter is lined with irons, and there are rows of drivers, woods and wedges. Then there's one little section on one side of the aisle for lefties that has about 5 different drivers, 3 different woods and 4 different wedges, sigh. Since I'm just learning maybe it would be best to learn the "right" way.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Traded in the driver I won through the Golfsmith Win with Phil promotion at callawaygolfpreowned... not a great trade-in, but after a few tries on Craigslist (and not wanting to mess with selling long-distance), it worked out pretty well. Waiting for an FT 3-hybrid (21 degrees), a 60 degree X Forged Vintage wedge (to replace the ancient 60 degree I picked up for a few bucks at Play-It-Again Sports), and an Odyssey White Hot XG #1 putter. I'm very excited about all these clubs, particularly the hybrid and the putter.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

    • Great point - my experience from the 2004 Oakland Hills Ryder Cup. I got 4 tickets for Friday, had some buddies go with me and we saw shots on about 4 holes. You really have to decide who you want to see, then try to jump ahead to see them somewhere on the back 9. If you got into the grandstands then you'd likely have a good view only of that green/tee box.  Sidenote: I knew a guy who was a member at Birmingham CC, and he was a marshal on the 18th hole and he was out there all day, both morning and afternoon groups. And he had 1 group play the hole in the morning and another in the afternoon. Huge corporate tents around the 18 green, along with some grandstands. And you get to see maybe 6 or 7 shots counting the approach and putts.  Learned my lesson, I have no issue in going to another Ryder Cup, especially at the prices they want for 2025. I think it was $40 for a practice round (went to one of those as well) and maybe $75 for Friday/Saturday, $100 for Sunday. And it was "limited" to 20,000 tickets/day, which is still very crowded to follow 4 pairings around the course.
    • Of course he can score in the low 70's in a really short course driving it that short. But the course rating is going to be in the 60's so is not like he can call himself a scratch player.
