Did Rors mis-hit his drive on 18? How did it not roll farther?

I wonder if he just didn't want to rip it because he would end up over the green. His 100% might be way to long to have an eagle shot. He probably tried to finesse one close.

He hit a 3W that hit into the upslope of one of the little bumps.

Wonder if he used 3W on 18 all four rounds.  Would make sense if he was concerned about overshooting the green like @saevel25suggested.

I have never hurt for any player's loss as much as I did for Rory.

I am gutted for him/with him. This will hurt for sometime. All the shit going on with LIV, this would have been so soothing.

But I continue cheering for this stout hearted fella. I am not gonna lie though.. if he ever changes tune and joins LIV I will stop watching pro golf for a while, like a long while.

This is a good point.  I'm trying to remember the last time I felt hurt by the ending to a major.  2009 PGA comes to mind, but I don't remember that feeling like this.  I felt bad for DJ at his PGA (bunker incident) and Open (not breaking 80 in the final round) losses, but that was back when I liked the guy.  I felt bad for Jordan at the 12th hole at the Masters that one time, but not like this.

I was also a gutted for Rory, but having a few shekels on Cam Smith at 25/1 each way, I have to confess to feeling a bit conflicted. 😄

I agree. Mine:

- 2009 British Open, Tom Watson

- 1995 British Open, Costantino Rocca

- 2014 US Open, Compton (even thou Kaymer lead was never in discussion, but still)

These are all very good points.  I especially remember rooting for Tom Watson in 2009, and I remember Stewart Cink saying on Letterman a day or two after his win that he was also rooting for Tom Watson.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
