I just got let down on an ambitious purchase (my golf swing trainer for wii) as it doesnt support left handed players. I can still use TW games but not as good analysis of the swing.

As a result im on the hunt for some form of budget home aid so i can practice on my lunch and get meaningful feedback. As i cant always get to the range through the week.

Phigolf/Phigolf2 are showing up alot in my search it says left hand support is available particularly on the wgt edition. The bluetooth device i can also attach to my clubs when i hit the range.

Im aware nothing will replace hitting balls, but anyone have this device and use it? Open to other recommendations.

I'm unsure of what you're trying to do. A few key points, IMO:

  • Video and mirrors are great forms of feedback.
  • I wouldn't trust a Wii trainer or anything like that. I don't even know if I'd trust something like the deWiz.
  • Practicing without a ball is of limited use. Your swing will be different when there's something to hit. I recommend strongly finding a way to hit at least AlmostGolf balls or something.

The objective is realtime feedback on my rotation/swing, i dont have space for a fulllength mirror (and my wife would go crazy if i install one on the wall) or a even a garden net etc.

Video is fine but it relies on my supplying it to a thirdparty and waiting on feedback as i cant self analayze myself i dont have the knowledge of someone like yourself.

Im aware it wont be a perfect solution but looking for anything that can assist/guide. I will still be going to the range as frequently as i can this is something i can do on my lunch break in my house though.

Go to the range. Have wife or someone there video your swing from a few angles. Post it to YouTube and share the link here under members swings. Take a look at @boogielicious, he is very active there along with others.

If you don't mind sharing, what are you living arrangements that you can't swing a club? Maybe someone has ideas for restricted space. Some foam balls in the front yard is better than nothing. Get creative. You can chip foamies off the carpet onto the couch.

Low ceilings across the house, i can use the garden but its small and shared with animals, washing wire also cuts space. I can and do chip stuff but its more full swing im looking at.

Again happy to do the videos for the thread but that is a delayed as opposed to live feedback.

I don't think the quality of the info will be as good as you think it will be.

And… learning to play golf is more about how to move your body so the club moves the right way, not just making the numbers for the club be "good."

Supplying it to a third-party? Record it on your phone and watch it. What do you think you're going to do with a phigolf except be trying to figure it out yourself?

@IceMike Are you suggesting a system that will record your swing, analyze it and give you feedback? Like….AI? 😳

I understand but i myself wont know what looks right/wrong without contact of a ball and seeing output. I dont know enough about swing form etc.

Try filming with hitting foam balls or other practice balls. Learning to film yourself is a skill too. You can hit foam balls anywhere. Just ask our resident piano man @GolfLug.

Maybe I should film myself filming my swing to make sure I'm doing it right?

:-P

But to echo what others have said, I'd rather do high quality practice indoors on things like putting and chipping when at home and then work on full swing when at the range.

    • Great interview.  Funny he mentioned the first hole double settling him down.. some dude mentioned this when it happened, pretty observant 😂 As for the complicated analysis, I wasn’t planning on doing that, but kinda got sucked in and diving deeper.  Yup… just plain nervous.  You could see it in his eyes coming off 13, he was nervous and a bit shell shocked… oh no here we go.
    • That it’s difficult is obvious, but part of what makes it difficult is impossible to see. The mental game. Some players thrive under pressure, while others crumble completely. Having the mentality to win major events is no good if you don’t have the game for it and having the game may not be enough if the nerves and stress cause too much trouble when the heat is on. Rory put a lot of pressure and expectations on himself, but it surely doesn’t help with all the media attention around his lack of major wins the last decade. He said in the interview that having all those legends of the game (Tiger, Jack etc.) saying he will win it one day just added to the pressure. They probably meant for those to be words of encouragement, while they had a negative effect on Rory. Ever since Tiger dominated, new promising players were “the next Tiger”. Rory has as good a game when he’s on, but Tiger was at a different level, over a long period of time. Anyone would be nervous in Rory’s shoes last week. How it would affect their game is very individual.
    • So, @klineka and @Zeph are you guys trying to imply that winning majors is difficult?  Perhaps, that's why Rory becomes the first golfer (not named Tiger Woods) in almost 60 years to win a career Grand Slam?
    • Watch his post-round interview @TommyRude. It provides good insight on what he's been struggling with. You look for answers in many places, but it may be as simple as nerves. He gets nervous in those situations and winning at Augusta has been a lifelong dream. It became an even more spectatular dream after winning the other majors and only missing The Masters for the career slam. No matter how hard you look and try to analyze everything, it doesn't have to be more complicated than that.
    • Honestly, I was so confused by their argument. I didn't really respond.   I'm not exactly sure. Start times the first two days were mentioned, and so was course layout, but neither of those made sense to me.
