Watching a youtube video from Rick Shields, his tour pro Caddie for that round cleaned his grips before the round. He was surprised but glad because he felt  them a lot more grippy than normal.

I have a mid am competition stating this friday and I normally clean the grooves of my irons before a tournament I consider important, but never came to mind to clean the grips.
Yesterday after cleaning the grooves I proceeded to clean the grips, after letting them dry they were supper grippy, even more than when they were new.
We will se how they are in a couple of days at the course, if they feel the same I think i will keep doing this before each tournament I consider important.

I clean them WAY more often than my students do, I can tell you that.

No.. but I should. It can only help. Of course, it only occurs to me when I'm not around my clubs. lol

I can honestly say unless I drop my club into something, I've never cleaned my grips.
But, having thought about it now, maybe I should?

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Nah. Goose poop is an excellent grip aid.

I used to do it before every competition round. These days I would do it very occasionally. I should do it a lot more, but I rarely have the inclination and the thought to do it at the same time.

Same here. Time to start again.

Thanks @p1n9183 for the reminder.

Not nearly as often as I used to.
Since I changed to Pure grips, they hardly ever seem to need cleaning nearly always grippy

With my previous grips  It was always very noticeable after you had cleaned them, not so much now.

I need to....I spend time cleaning the grooves as noted earlier. It would be a simple matter of making a few more minutes available to do the same for the grips.

I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that go to the expense of replacing their grips, when only a good cleaning will extend their life. Can make a very noticeable difference, depending on the grip material.

    • I have a Titleist one that I use with my electric trolley. Fits perfectly on there and I don't care about the weight because I'm not carrying it or pushing it. I have room for everything I could need and when it's hot I have plenty of room for lots of water.
    • Quick question for you. If you had Tiger Woods hit all of your full shots and you just did the chipping, putting and sand shots what do you think your handicap would be?
    • So yesterday I happened to find myself in a Play-It-Again sports and they had that very Cobra Staff Bag for $150.00.  It looked to be in perfect or near-perfect condition. I immediately wondered if the guy I saw using it on Wednesday had hocked it at Play-It-Again. 😁
    • See you Saturday at Reserve Run.  I have to confess, even thought it's a long way out. I'm pretty excited about next year end of April. The tournament I play every year for the better part of 2 decades is moving to Paiute Golf Club in Las Vegas. We'll get to use The Wolf and Sun Mountain courses for our tournament and get to do the Horserace on The Snow Mountain Course. I'm already looking forward to it.
    • OH MY GOSH!!! I feel your pain!  The Wednesday League I play in has done it that way forever. (So did the Monday Night league I tried for a couple of years.) I have no idea why. Makes me crazy! Especially since they have a modified local rule which was designed for exactly that purpose! Personally, I don't do it. It hasn't happened to me very much, only once that I can think of, but when it did I demanded to be given a two stroke penalty. They wouldn't give it to me. So, I went all the way back and replayed the shot with a one stroke penalty. The guys I found on the tee box thought I was an insane person... maybe I am.  But, Man, the rules are the rules and it's not even complicated or confusing.
