Accordingly, under the new policy, athletes who are assigned female at birth are eligible to compete on the LPGA Tour, Epson Tour, Ladies European Tour, and in all other elite LPGA competitions. Players assigned male at birth and who have gone through male puberty are not eligible to compete in the aforementioned events.

Seems fair.

"Assigned a gender at birth"... LMAO!

Gender is determined at conception, not assigned at birth.

We shouldn't let this become too political, but I recently read that there are some relatively rare x-y combinations:

Learn about the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of X&Y (Sex) Chromosome variations. See how our eXtraordinarY Kids Clinic can help.

Find out about differences in sex development (DSDs), a group of rare conditions where the reproductive organs and genitals don't develop as expected. Some people prefer to use the term intersex.

In addition to what @DaveP043 said… it's just a way of saying you don't actually know if you have a boy or a girl until they're born, and they check the box on the birth certificate. Most parents don't do genetic testing on their unborn children.

Oh I get it. I also get that they have to write the policy so as not to offend anyone. But the whole thing makes me laugh.

People can know the sex of the child long before birth.  My niece is expecting in May, 2025 and already knows it will be a boy.  My wife and I, OTOH, decided to not find out ahead of time.  But nowadays the majority of people do choose to find out ahead of time.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

It shouldn't. There are a few people who do have gender dysphoria. Sometimes our genes do not line up across the board. Just like autistic people cannot choose to be autistic, gender dysphoric people cannot choose that they were born with the set of genes they were born with.

The LPGA is a sports entertainment industry. For better or worse, the image they want to show, can have a big impact on their product. This isn't like some manufacturing plant in the middle of nowhere Ohio that can get away with allowing their employees to run the "good old boys" way of doing things and not have many repercussions for it.

I think people are getting too worked up with the wording here. Gender at birth means gender you were born with. knowing or not knowing doesn't change that. To nitpick based on knowing or not knowing is just a waste of time.

As for the article, I am 100% good with it. My stance is since puberty for men basically is just introducing a growth hormone, then it gives them a huge competitive advantage over women if allowed to participate in the same sport. Even then, just being biologically male has competitive advantages in muscle makeup, like amount of muscle in certain areas (upper body strength) compared to women. A leading fitness expert who trains professional athletes gave recommendations for general fitness for women and men. Women, he excluded the pull up, because it has not indication on the health of the female. They literally do not have the grip and upper body strength to do so.

That's exactly my point. Gender isn't "assigned at birth". It's determined at conception. Even if a person's gender is an outlier. It's still determined at conception. We are so worried about offending anyone that we have to phrase things in often very ridiculous ways. I get it, we have to check a box when somebody is born. But it still sounds funny and makes me laugh. "Assigned at Birth" makes it sound like you are being issued a rental car. 🤣

I agree with you. The hormone's are an unfair advantage. Not only that, but also the Q-angles, and pelvis construction are huge advantages for males.

Males don't have a birth canal ruining the physics on how their muscles pull on their bones and joints. The male shoulder is set up for greater strength efficiency than a woman's. All the hormones in the world won't change the angles built into the male skeleton. 👍

Yes, I'm aware of gender reveal parties. Sometimes they've gotten that wrong, though, and the point I was clearly making is that they simply picked the most convenient time when you can know to a strong degree of certainty the sex/gender of the baby: at birth in response to the idea that the baby's gender is "known" at conception.

No, it's not that. Particularly in light of this policy which has offended.

They're not saying it's like Harry Potter with the sorting hat. "You, go to house male. Next. You are hereby assigned to house female."

I have off the grid for a couple months, so excuse my ignorance.

Was Hailey Davidson dominating the LPGA tournament circuit?
Has trans women been filling up the leaderboard every sunday?

If not they are trying to solve a problem that does not currently exist.

Strangely enough, she played at my club as a teenage boy, and was a very good player.  Always seemed a bit of a "tortured soul", and I don't think transitioned until well after leaving here, much too late in life to fit within the new LPGA policy.

I think too many people thing trans folks have made the changes simply to compete in a less competitive setting.  This is a momentous change in someone's life, never taken lightly.
