One more hole birdied today.  Now only 2 left, the #1 and #2 Hcp holes.

Eagled 7 the other day with @DrizZzY (toe-drew a driver, hit a great hybrid to like 15 feet from 251), and birdied 6 today. So, I only have 2 and 8 on the front nine to finish this year, and then several holes on the back. I've not played the back a lot this year.

The 7th I'd previously birdied, I mean. But eagling supersedes that.

I still don't really have a home course, but after making my first birdie of 2025 today, I'm going to try the away composite.  There's a course not too far from me that I keep meaning to make my home course (and I might have treated as a "home course" some years).  The course my handicap and membership is through I, sadly, haven't played in quite a while :-(

Maybe one of my 2026 goals should be to get a home course.

I birdied 9 and 11 at Bent Tree. On my way to an 81 (42 + 39).

Bent Tree is looking pretty rough right now. That place gets tons of play and we haven't seen a drop of rain in what feels like forever.

Anyhow, that gives me 9 out of 18 holes birdied at Bent Tree. Some of them multiple times. Having said that, I'm pretty sure I never even really got close on hole 5 and/or hole 13. According to Shotscope I have very few GIR's on 5 and 13... that makes it really difficult to make any birdies.

  • Hole 5 is medium length par 4 (410 yards), but has a stream through the middle of it. I usually play it 200-210 off the tee. Then another 200-210 shot into the green. Very rare GIR's.
  • Hole 13 is a 195 yard par-3. Lots of NGIR's as there isn't much trouble around it. My GIR's aren't close to the hole so I made a decent split between bogies and pars. But no birdies.

I don't have any more plans to pay Bent Tree this year so it looks like I'll probably close out the season getting 9 out of 18. (Not as good as I had hoped.)

I added to total today by hopping it in on the first hole for an eagle. A short par 4, I hit 4 wood to 110. With a little breeze in my face I hit a 50 degree gap wedge to 2 feet and watched it hop into the hole for an eagle 2!

I've knocked off a few holes lately. Slightly heel cut a mini driver into the deep part of the fairway on 17 tonight, chip cut a 9I to about 12 feet shy of the hole, buried the putt in the middle. Funny read on it, too.

1, 8, 10, 14, and 18 remain. I haven't played a lot of golf this summer, so that's not too bad.

Birdied #1 at Quail today. Just barely missed starting my day 2-under.

Lipped out a 6’ birdie putt on #2 that would have also been new. Putts just weren’t dropping for me today.

Eagled number three with a 3I to three feet and birdied 18 with a high toe tee shot into a baseball swing from the rough @ 163, putt from 15 feet just fell in the right side on aerated greens.

-16 with four holes left (2, 8, 10, 14).

Chipped in for birdie on #10. I guess when the putts aren’t dropping this is how I have to make birdies.

Okay, I went through old scorecards and discovered that (a) yes, I've parred every numbered hole so far this year (good for me), and (b) I apparently made a birdie on my birthday back in June, so that birdie in Arizona a month and a half ago wasn't my first of the year.

Then, following Bill's suggestion (immediate prior comment to this one), I chipped in today for birdie at #10 at a course I was playing.

I did make a 15-footer for birdie on Saturday that added hole #5 to my away composite and a 2-footer on #18 (repeat) so I may have invalidated my methodology.

Caught up on some away course birdies. I didn't play enough to pass the challenge this year, most likely. And that's okay.

Picked up a birdie at the par-5 #13 at Navy today;  that's probably the course I've played more than any other this year, at an amazing 7 rounds (8th is tomorrow).  Still, "only" fourth birdie of the year (and first one at this course).  Felt good:  driver, hybrid, 9-iron to a few feet (the flag was not my target, but was within my shot pattern), made the putt.

I guess I'll stay at -16 for this year's challenge.  I never birdied holes 7, 13 (the 2 hardest holes) in 2025.  Also had a couple Eagle putts on the par 5's, but didn't convert either time.  Looking forward to 2026, though!

    • Just like the 2022, 2021, 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025 topics, we're doing it again in 2026! Once again, I'd like to birdie every hole at Whispering Woods in 2026 (and maybe every numbered hole on other courses). I'd like you to join me on this quest. This year's spreadsheet is below: 2026 TST Birdie Challenge - Google Sheets   Please click through, add your name, home course, and location, and when you make a score on the holes as you play them, update your line in the spreadsheet with your ringer score, basically. The idea is to score a birdie or better on each hole on the course this year. If you're above a certain handicap and would like to make it a par challenge, go for it! Just add that note to the Notes column. Please leave the formatting as is. And note that you only write down one score - if you birdie a hole three times, you aren't writing down -3. It's just your best individual score for each hole. We can all cheer each other on and see where this takes us! If you truly play a TON of different courses, then follow these two guidelines: If you just play a lot of golf, but still get 20 or 25 (or more) rounds in on one course, consider making that your home course and just doing the birdie challenge there. If you truly play only 20-40 rounds per year, and never more than a handful at the same course, consider trying to birdie holes numbered 1 to 18 across all of your courses. Or even doing it twice. Yeah, some hole #17s will be easier birdies than others, but that's why you might do it twice.
