Does anyone use a 54 degree SW? I have a 56, but I'm contemplating a lower loft. I'm not so good with the higher loft clubs...

My Titleist SC85 Bag holds:

Cobra 3100 I/H Irons 5-GWTitleist Vokey Wedges 54 & 58PiNG i-Series Anser 4 PutterCallaway Big Bertha & Warbird Balls

yeah i use a 54. depends on the gap between your wedges, I have 3: 47, 54 and 58. If i had room for another wedge, I might have 47, 52, 56, 60 but 3 is enough for me :)

I might get the 54 bent to a 53 to even up the gap.

Typically SW's are usually 56* or 58*.
You may find the odd person that uses a 54*.
but you don't really wanna leave to big a gap between wedges if you
use a lob or flop wedge.

My Weapons:
Driver: Tour Edge Exotics 9* (Fuji High Launch Stiff)
3 Wood: MDGolf Blackhawk (Prolite Stiff)
20* Hybrid: Maxfli Redeemer (High Launch Reg)
Irons (3-PW): Ben Hogan BH-5 (Apex shafts Reg)Wedges: 58* Progen (True Temper Reg) 60* MDGolf Superstrong (True Temper Reg)Putter:...

I have a 54* wedge and also use a 60*. I find that the versatility of the 54 is good enough.

I disagree with amzzk, I think typical SW are usually 54*-56* and then typical lob wedges are 57*+. But what lofts you get depends on your irons because you want to keep as even as a gap between lofts as you can.

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

I use a 58º for my out of the sand shots. really, you just want any 52º or above club, as long as the bounce on it is +10.

^^^ amzzk has it right.

SW = 54*-56* Anything above that is considered a LW. Billy B: As long as you have a good spacing between your clubs (next club up is a 50* Gap Wedge or a regularly lofted Pitching Wedge), there is no reason you couldn't go to a 54* SW. But If you are playing a 52* Gap Wedge, then you are going to end up with some overlap.

^^^ amzzk has it right.

I'm confused, you said you agree with amzzk with the statment SW = 54*-56* although I was the one that said that?

D'oh! You are correct. I agreed with you.

I would correct the original post, but there is no "edit" button on that post. What's up with that?

I use the stan Utley method, he says that 48° is a pitching wedge, 53° is a gap wedge, and 58° is a sand wedge. I use a 54°/58° combo. In the end though who cares what is called, or just call it by its loft.

D'oh! You are correct. I agreed with you.

haha, we all make mistakes. And after a certain amount of time you cannot edit your post, although I am not sure the time-frame on that.

Here's what I play:

I have the following:

52/12
56/11
60/6

Mizuno mp series

Titleist 910 D2 9.5 Driver
Titleist 910 F15 & 21 degree fairway wood
Titleist 910 hybrid 24 degree
Mizuno Mp33 5 - PW
52/1056/1160/5

"Yonex ADX Blade putter, odyssey two ball blade putter, both  33"

ProV-1

As you can see at my signature, I use a 54º SW :

PW 46º
GW 50º
SW 54º
LW 58º

Previously, I had a 44/51/56/60 combo, but this is far easier, specially the 58º over the 60º

I use the 54º for chipping and finesse wedges, and the 58º for lobs and off the sand

Hope this helps

Anything above 56 degrees is not necessarily considered a lob wedge... I consider my 60-degree a sand wedge because it has 10 degrees of bounce... my 54 also has 10 degrees of bounce so I really have 2 sand wedges in my bag... but I use the 60 out of bunkers.

Can the bounce on a wedge be changed?

I think you can grind it down, but I am not sure?

Yeah, you can decrease the bounce by grinding, and I imagine if you really wanted to, you could add bounce, but that would probably cost more than the club was brand new by the time it get's welded, replated, and finished. Kind of pointless to add bounce, just by a new wedge.

I carry a 50* and a 56*. I was using the 50,54,58 3 wedge set up, but I found that my 56 can do everything my 54 and 58 can, so I carry a Par 5 killer 7w. I just 3/4 the 50 to fill the 10 yd gap b/t the 50 and 56.
