Always been a bit of a tinkerer so ive been thru lots of gear. That being said I have actually found the most success with cheaper gear from value brands such as wilson. So heres whats currently in the bag and the price. Driver: wilson killer whale 10.5 $59.99 4 wood: wilson killer whale $49.99 Hybrid four iron: nike sq r flex $25 Irons: wilson reflex 4-gw: $199.00 Sw: cleveland cg16 $79.99 Putter: scotty cameron newport 2 Handicap dropped 6 strokes when i got rid of my callaway irons in favor of the wilsons. Dumb name for the driver and four wood but i hit them well, and i tend to spend a little more on my scoring clubs such as wedges and putters.

Wishon 919 driver w/fitting - $300

wishon 3W -- $80

TE Iron set - $350

(2) scor wedges - $150

Seemore putter - $120

So a total of $1,000.  That is a lot more than I thought it would be as I purchased them over a 2 year period and most of my items are not from a major marketed brand.  I would hate to add up the clubs I have purchased and sold while getting to witb currently! :)

I didn't read all of the posts but either a lot of you get great deals or I am way overpaying.  Granted I usually don't let money be an object in my club purchases. (buy once ,cry once) but jeez my Driver, 3 wood and two hybrids were $1,700. ( I got a little screwed on that one but a lot of goodwill from my pro) Yes I upgraded shafts and bought custom fitted Titleists. I just ordered irons which I suspect will be in the $700 range.  $500 for my wedges and a $300 Scotty putter.  Almost $3K already.  Add bags, rangefinders, blah blah.  Call it $3,000.

Current set $30 craigslist set + 25 reid lockart wedges Ebay +$23(all 14) for new grips for after I get the clubs cut to length for me.

Inntech driver

Pinemeadow 3 wood

Dci 5 wood

Top Flite plus irons

Lockhart wedges 52,56,60

MacGregor putter

I was playing older MacGregor's but couldn't hit the blades on the wet course lately.  Have more expensive driver than the one that came with the $30 set but want to get the driver cut to about 42.5 and so on with the other clubs. 5'9 but WTF is 32.  So I want to to tinker with the cheap set and try playing shorter clubs than standard. If it doesn't work out I won't be cutting /tipping etc expensive shafts so will only be out the investment above.

I've loved shopping for my golf equipment. I've been changing it up quite a bit because used equipment can be had for so cheap. I bought my first set new from rockbottom, $15 yes mallet putter on clearance, callaway diablo octane driver for $100, 5w callaway for $45 i think, and a 5-SW with a 4H adams tight lights set for $150 I think. Then I had a full set. After that, I slowly (for me) phased stuff out with some better equipment by looking on ebay and craigslist:

D: TM R11 9* used on craigslist for $90 with adjustment tool and some weights

4i-PW: TM R9's used on ebay for $200

SW: Solus 56* for $20 new on rockbottom new

LW: Ray Cook 60* for $15 on rockbottom new

GW: Solus 52* to get rid of a 10* loft gap I had so I couldn't hit anything at about 100y lol, anyways $25 from rockbottom new

3W: callaway diablo for $60 on rockbottom new

P: is still the Yes! mallet 34" new from rockbottom for $15

And I have to say. I'm really liking my really cheap wedges. They feel great to me, and I can beat on them pretty good with no worries. They actually have a decent amount of bounce to them as well (at least the LW does). Putter has been feeling very good too. Seems a lot heavier than a lot of the other putters I've tried. Haven't weighed it but it's probably pretty heavy compared to a lot of the cheaper putters.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
