I forget where I heard it, but it has made me a "money" driver of the ball.

The only thing that matters is how your club is moving from the ball to ~1 foot in front of it. I generally play a straight to fade ball flight and the only thing I concentrate on is picking a spot about 6 inches in front of my ball and making sure my clubhead passes from the ball to that spot.

best advice ever...
as far as golf advice from a playing partner...
"there's a hazard right after the dogleg"
RUSS's avg drive - 230yrds and climbing

On very short pitches a guy suggested that I swing as if i were tossing the ball up on to the green with my hand, like pitching a softball. I wish that were more descriptive but I got what he was saying...works for me.

This guy I was playing with at Poppy Hills was having a hell of a day. He gave me a putting tip and I started going Brad Faxon on the greens. Turns out he was on the nationwide tour.

my coach always tells me what club to use when i play with him, once in a while i ignoren him, he always ends up being right

It wasn't advice, but it was the thing that helped my game best. At the first hole the random guy goes: "I like your swing, good quiet legs on your backswing."

It gave me a bunch of confidence and made me play so much better. My golfing buddy, who is a 8hc, would criticize my swing all the time and it would kill my game. This one sentence helped more than all the (constructive) criticism I had before.

I got paired up with 2 guys, one who was a 2 handicapper and the other one was a scratch golfer. I hit my ball into a green side bunker and struggled to get it out. I kept jabbing at the ball and it went nowhere. The scratch golfer told me to follow all the way through for sand shots just like I would with an iron. Ever since then I get out of bunkers in one shot now. :)

Probably when one of my opponents just tells me to relax. I sometimes get really tense when I swing.

"Open your front foot up a little bit."

Helped my swing a ton. I'm just a tad duck footed but forced myself to learn my stance with a straight foot. It made it so I couldnt rotate through as far because it was like my leg was already part way rotated yet I was straight on. If anybody understands my little babble there...

Calm down bud. Don't need to get into an internet war over something silly.

I tend to ignore the advice given to me by strangers. Unless they're Hank Haney or David Leadbetter I can't see how a pure stranger can analyse my swing and give me valid advice without knowing me, my tendencies, etc. I prefer to tune them out, like I tend to ignore the instruction articles in Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, etc.

Also, just because someone is a low-handicapper, doesn't mean they're a good teacher. Alot of times, better players go on feel and have a hard time putting into words what they feel and what the person they're helping should feel.

Crap, the Dr. already beat me to it ... but here it goes anyway ...

one of the first times out ,,,,i hit the green but it bounced off and over a road,,,a local subdivision,,,i was about to play the ball and a paired player said that stroke would be illegal in the state of PA please drop this side of the road....

I didnt want to go to golf jail so...I obeyed that law...

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
