Great point. I'm really amazed at some of the claims by some people here. Either they don't know how to figure an average or they're just trolling. I would imagine hitting those distances yet he's still carrying a 5 handicap, his short game must be in dire need of an overhaul.

1 Iron - Wooden tees catch fire like match heads even when I lay off.

2 Iron - If you look at the ground after I hit, you can find the little plastic letters and numbers from the ball.

3 Iron - Used this when I hit my 182nd hole in one yesterday, par 6, 783 yards, back pin, head wind screaming like a flaming eagle.

4 Iron - I swung this and a guy eating lunch shit himself.

5 Iron - Not very far (340-360) because I removed the grip and shaft so I can just swing the club head in my palm.

6 Iron - I once swung hard and hit a ball back in time.

7 Iron - If the zombie apocalypse broke out, all I'd need is a 7 iron and a bucket of balls - BOOM HEAD SHOT.

8 Iron - I can hit it on the green of any local course - from the pavement of my driveway.

9 Iron - Had my 9 iron bent to 180* so I could play left and right handed at the same time.

PW - 289, every single time. 2-8-9.

GW - 279, every single time, 2-7-9

SW - I swing in the trap and diamonds come flying out

84* - 150 with 1/10th swing (all I every need)

Putter - I can beat you with only my putter in my bag (and a telescoping ball retriever so we can fetch your mishits).

Umbrella - 120 Yards.

Basically, on the par 3's, I'm 84*, maybe putter.  Par 4's, 7 Iron, Putter,  Par 5's, 5 Iron, umbrella, putter.

I'd go on the tour but I'm too busy posting my numbers on the internet to play.

Post of the Year.

Driver - 280-290

3W - haven;t hit it in 2 years because it's a warped clone, I haven't bought a new one, and back then I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn

3hy - 225-235

4i - 205-215

5i - 195-205

6i - 180-190

7i - 165-175

8i - 155-165

9i - 145-155

PW - 140

AW - 125

SW - 115

LW - 100

Aside from checking this out at the range as much as possible without a scope, I know this is true because during my last three rounds, I played 6100-6400 yard courses and was generally hitting driver/wedge on Par 4s. During one round, I needed my 5 iron for a par 3, my 8 for another, and my 5 to hit a low scooter underneath a tree branch-after pull hooking a tee shot into the woods. Other than that, I used only 6 clubs all day - D, 3hy, AW, SW, LW, putter.

Now ask me if I hit them straight! About half of my shots are in this range. The other half are either hooks, sometimes pull hooks especially at 6i+, and an occasional vicious slice when I try to rip it and block it like nobody's business.

Okay, let me assist you in factoring your average. You have to count all those that you don't hit straight as well. Those hooks, pull hooks and vicious slices count towards your average. For each of your 220 yard banana ball slice or 240 yard left of left hook mean to hit your 280 average you have to blister one 340-360 down the middle. Starting to get the picture on what your ACTUAL average is?

No offense meant but people don't seem to fathom reality when posting their averages.

Never said anything about average. The forum is titled "how far do you hit your clubs?" I know what an average is. I took 7th grade math. Average to me is a wasted metric anyway when it comes to measuring your club distances. If you hit a 7 iron well, it should be relatively the same distance every time anyway.

Are the numbers being given here total yards or carry yards?  I have no idea how to accurately figure out carry distance.  I can guess where the ball hit and I can measure the point at which it stopped moving.  It would be good to know but I don't know how to capture it.

Carry distance is tough to measure for us amateurs during casual rounds.  Most people probably list total distances with roll, and are using some sort of educated guess based on landmarks or rollout for carry distance.

I can only get carry on the driving range. Even there it's sketchy.

New iron distances about a month after getting my new MP-64's. I seem to be getting a perfect 10 yard difference between clubs. Note: these are all full swings, on a warm day with no wind.

PW - 155 (I don't normally hit it this long because I rarely hit a full-out swing with it)

9i - 165

8i - 175

7i - 185

6i - 195

5i - 205

About 5-10 yards less per club. I was playing an old set of Nike cavity backs. Weren't nearly as consistent either.

    • Day 20: Did 30 minutes after getting home from work, before kid's baseball practice. This session was piecing out the new hip move in transition, doing 2-3 rehearsals from the top, and then hitting a ball from between P5/P6. Did another 45 minutes after baseball practice and dinner. Did 30 more minutes of what I did earlier, and then about 15 minutes of full swings trying to incorporate athletically.
    • Day 296: did a stack session.
    • Day 126: 5/1/24 Putting and chipping practice. Slow motion swings with 8-iron.
    • #4 - 1st hole at Kingsbarns I rolled in a 15 footer for birdie. Showed my caddie an old guy could still play a bit. #3 - 18th hole at Basin Harbor Club, Vergennes, VT. I had played matches against my nephew over the years. He had never beaten me although through the years he had become a long hitting teenage golfer. I was 1 up but bunkered near the 18th green. My nephew had a long putt for birdie. I splashed out of the bunker to 4 feet. He rolled his first putt close and I gave him the par. Sadly for him, I rolled mine in and won our last match. He went off to college and then Europe for a Ph. D. It was our last match. Family champion forever. #2 - First playoff hole in the City of Livonia, MI “65 & Over” division. I rolled in an 8 footer that broke about 4-5 inches. #10 Whispering Willows GC. #1  18th hole at TPC Prestancia, Sarasota, FL. A 4 foot slicing putt for par to beat the prior year’s Member/Guest winners and win the Member/Guest with my father at his club. I was having heart palpitations as I played the final hole solo when my father put two in the water. There was never a better golf sight for me when that ball dove into the hole.
    • Finally, wedges getting somewhere. This one a punch gap from 87 yards to about 12 feet. Contact and ball flight absolute restaurant quality. It's nice when grass comes back.
