Blade Putter vs. Mallet Putter

Is there really much of a difference? Or is it down to the person? I have a nike ignite mallet, but I'm thinking of selling it to my dad and buying a blade. I just decided I like the feel of blade putters more. Is there any reason or is it just a person's feel?

There is a difference in feel, but every blade and every mallet are different. A Nike blade doesn't necessarily feel the same as an Odysset blade or a Scotty Cameron blade. Same with mallets. It's all personal preference. I've played with both. I like the blade for mid and short range putts, and the mallet for long range putts.

the putter all determines which range of motion and ball contact is suitable for you. A mallet putter has (an intended straight back, straight forward) feel to it where as the blade putter has more of an (intended arc swing). But it all depends on how you swing and what you feel for when putting.

I go with the blade putter just for the balance in my stance and how i rock the club.

I'm actually thinking of selling my dad my putter for $40, then buying a Ping Karsten Anser 2. I think maybe I'll putt better, since it's a blade, and maybe I'll have a little more confidence.

All of the Ping putters are good. I love my Scotty, but I putted with an Anser for awhile before I got the Scotty as a gift, and it was great. I don't think you could go wrong it.

That's a common misconception.

I think it'd be more accurate to talk about toe hang. Mallets tend to have less, and that's probably where the misconception comes from - a little less toe hang and the stroke tends to be a little less arced. The real difference? They look different. And that's about it.

Youd be surprised at how my club pros ive talked to who all say its all about the range of motion. A putting coach at callaway golf center provided me with this information and as i tested it out, it really seems to be true.

Can I get some Blade putter recommendations? Anything but Scottys, don't have enough money for them.

Look for a used, but not abused Scotty on eBay. I got mine in great condition for $110 total. Best decision I've ever made. Of course, mine isn't completely a blade putter.

yes. Used scotties are the way to go. BTW, circa 62's are awesome.

Blade putters used to be prone to twisting and unforgiving on mishits, but with today's technology its just basically just what you feel most confident using. I think the people who use mallet putters feel more confident with the extra visual aid they may offer. Personally, I like Ping blade putters and would love to have a redwood anser putter for my bag.

Weight balance. More toe hang for an arced stroke, less for a straigher stroke. A lot of mallets tend to be face balanced, but not all. There are also face ballanced balde style putters.

I just got a Karsten Anser 2 and I like it. I tried almost the entire Karsten line and quite a few other putters, and that was my final choice. You can read a bit more here .

I ditched my scotty for a Nike unitized retro blade. Very old school and the shaft is actually forged into the club head which gives me a ton of feedback.

Get a ping you won't regret it, most copied putters in golf. Besides you get to be cool and go against the scotty trend.

If you want a standard blade style putter for less than $100 the two best choices are Ping and Ping. Get a Karsten Anser or Zing for $89-bonus is they are still made in the U.S.A.
