  1. 1. How/When do you yell "FORE!"

    • Never. Golf is dangerous - too bad if you get hit.

    • Rarely. I get dazed watching the ball and forget to yell.

    • I yell FORE, but always far too late to be useful.

    • I yell FORE when needed, and on time.

    • I even yell FORE if someone else in my foursome forgets to!

    • I yell FORE! before I swing...

I would like to do a poll on how/when people do this. Besides keeping other golfers safe, you may buy yourself some legal indemnity if you yell "Fore!" on the course and then hit someone.

I yell it if it's going to hit someone. If it's not, I figure that yelling it might make them run into the ball (regardless of who hit it).

I dont hit too many balls bad enough that they might hit a golfer playing another hole, but when i do i try to let them know that there is incoming. I always found it funny that when somebody yells "fore!" that the first thing everybody does is look up. Thats probably the last thing you should do...lol.

Funny thing is I was almost killed yesterday when some hack never yelled it. I looked at him and said maybe you could yell fore next time, you almost killed me. He said OK nonchalantly. Golf can be dangerous and if in the vicinity of others I will yell.

I yell it LOUD! No need for someone to get hurt out there.

That is how you can tell the golfers from the non-golfers. If I hear "four" my first reaction is to cover my head with my arms.

I do the same thing. I have actually seen balls hit a golf cart when the players were 10-15 feet away. We knew the players were out of danger and didn't want them to try and dive back into the cart, becuase we knew the cart was in danger.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

we had been playing behind a super slow group all day, on the 17th hole 2 jackasses about hit me and my friend, we had teed off and were over a hill out of view and one ball lands right behind me as im getting ready to hit, I yelled to let them know we were still there, a second later another one comes whizzing over my head.. I was going to steal their balls, but decided to be the bigger man and just run over them with the cart until they were in craters

I yell anytime someone forgets. I try to give others the benefit, if maybe it was hazy or dark and the ball was lost in flight. Ive not said it myself when driving, since I kept my head down and lost the ball flight. so i expect my group to help

Yes golfers will cover their head with their arms. I usually go duck and cover to the knees.

I yell 'FORE RIGHT/LEFT' and I stick my hand/club out to which ever direction it is headed.

I did have an incident though, when I yelled FORE LEFT! And the guy, instead of going turtle position or running away spins around looks right at me with a 'what?' face. Ball whizzed by his head, don't think he even knew. Funny thing is, is that he did it again when my pal yelled fore 2 holes later. I think the guy was very drunk...

How can you get mad at them if you are out of view? I think you had a responsibility to let them know you were there and they had one to check to see if you were gone.

We have a hole that if you hit it in a certain area, you are below fairway view from the tee box (#13 at Heron Ridge). I usually park up on the hill and walk down to my ball.

I was once paired up with this old boy I'd never met before (I was a teenager, and he was probably 65). The folks behind us drove right up on us while we were in the fairway. I mean, this dude and I had driven within a few yards of one another, and the group behind us put a ball in between him and me.

So this guy takes his wedge out of his bag, steps over to the offensive ball, and pitches it over a fence and into someone's backyard.

I was like, "Dude, I can't believe you just did that. That was sweet."

He just turned around and gave an exaggerated shrug to the guys behind us.

I guess they should have yelled fore.

Every time it's needed, loudly and with a location (on 13, left, 16 tee, etc.)

Thank goodness for the large trees on my home course.

I always have to resist the urge to look in the direction I hear FORE being yelled from.

Now I crouch down and cover my head. Unfortunately on the courses I play you never know which hole is meant, so usually I'm crouching for a ball that impacts on a different fairway. But better safe than sorry.

I played a round the other day where it felt like balls were raining in around my "fore-some" for the whole round. 6 balls within 5 feet of us. Not a single time did anyone yell fore.

My father taught me to play from a young age, and since he grew up in an age of respect and etiquette, he taught me the same.

I started to pick up the game again and decided to go slow, playing a local par 3 course that's pretty fun. It's 54 holes packed close together, and hardly any trees separating fairways. I pulled my 3i-hybrid off one tee that headed for a hill left of the green where the previous hole tees off. I was so stunned I could not do anything, but luckily my partner yelled "Fore!" for me. It did not reach them thankfully, but I still remember that feeling of not being able to do anything, like when you're in a car wreck that turns to slow motion.

Well, I yell, but I certainly don't yell fore. I was playing with some buddies, and I hit it, and they were driving the cart straight at me, but I didn't yell fore, I was too confused. I yelled something along the lines of "THE CAR-GET OUT, RUN" And trust me, ALOT of eyes around me were staring.

I'll yell fore next time.
