I just got an email yesterday saying I might get one, if i do great, if not no big deal. If i get it ill use it, dont plan on buying new irons but hey its free, freebies are always good. Might use it for my get out of trouble club so I dont risk damaging one of my other irons. I currently have an old 7 iron ive put in the bag that I bought at a local pawn shop cheap (still only 13 clubs so legal) for when you hit the ball too close to a tree, rocks, fence, etc. Basically any time I think i might hit an obstruction with my swing or backswing ill use it to save my regular irons from needless abuse or if i get frustrated it will be the club i throw or beat into the ground, kind of like Mike Perez did with every club on the last Big Break. But seriously, Im more worried about tearing up whatever course Im playing at and looking like a fool, most ill usually do is mutter something to myself and go on. Nobody else cares that I just chunked that 6 iron, they're worried about what they're doing.

I knew the lofts before I bought, what moron would not?

i would bet that 8 or 9 out of 10 sets of irons purchased are bought by people who dont know what the lofts are...

I wonder how many unknowing customers are carrying around TM Burners thinking that they're some magical club that are better than all the other irons?

As a nerd outside of golf, this makes me wonder: if there were magical clubs that improved your game, would they be +5 irons or -5 irons?

Might use it for my get out of trouble club so I dont risk damaging one of my other irons. I currently have an old 7 iron ive put in the bag that I bought at a local pawn shop cheap (still only 13 clubs so legal)

And I just figured out where it would go in my bag (currently sitting at 13 clubs) if I get one.

First thing i noticed was the length of the club...seemg long. I compared it to my set, and the TB 6 iron is 1/2 longer than mine, and maybe 1/8" longer than my 5 iron. We all know they are really sending us a 5 iron, which is a more difficult club to hit than a 6 iron. They should be sending out 7 irons.

I wish I read the official rules first. It tells you that you need certain answers to get the clubs. All my answers matched except for which Irons I play, which are "Other." So I won't be getting a club lol.

I complained to a TM rep about this a few weeks ago at the Los Angeles golf show. He told me to sign up again, and list one of the irons that qualify as my set.

I think it was the only really good thing he told me all day, since he also told me that the RAC MBs are bad clubs and that anyone without a very low handicap should be playing Burners.

i received my burner 6 iron couple weeks ago, honestly it doesn't feel much different off the face than my r7, although it may carry another 5 yards or so

I like my r7s. I bought them last summer and have enjoyed playing with them. Bought them when I started so I really had no clue about the specs, but they had a good price so I went for it. Kind of sucks after now researching all of the different lofts that all of my clubs are actually a club higher, but they still play so I'm gonna keep on swinging them. They are certainly a fun set to play with, and most of the time the ball goes in the air and forward so I'm not complaining. However, I think once I decide to go in for a new set I will look for something a little more true and honest to my swing.

Don't drink the hater kool-aid, you have excellent clubs. If lofts mattered they would be on the sole instead of arbitrary numbers. What matters is you that have a club for the distance to the green and you know which one that is. Check the lofts from the 70s and you will see all clubs are delofted now,it is just a matter of degree. Enjoy your clubs. Now if you want to feel duped just ask where the truffles are in a box of chocolates called truffles.

I can get a demo iron (6i) at any local golf shop for $10 or less. Not at a discounter like Dick's, mind you, at a full retail golf shop.

Quite the crock that giveaway. I finally read the qualifying info and saw that I don't meet them because I also checked "other" irons.

Well, I wouldn't care, except that TM is constantly sending me email saying woohoo woohoo you "might" get an iron, so read our spam literature. Now I've bought several TM woods/drivers in the past 3 years, and I like the product, but tricks like this do not foster customer loyalty.

    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
