I played a golf course in Nevada the other day and it was fun , but when I came to hole 4 a par 5 I made a birdie. I've never made a birdie before and I couldn't believe it I thought it was too easy and then i realize on the score card it was only 430 yards . Would you consider this a solid birdie or is this par 5 too short?
thx

A birdie is a birdie is a birdie. Don't overthink it, just get another one. My first birdie was a pitch-in from 50 yards out on a par 3, and I didn't question whether it was a "real" birdie or not... As long as the scorecard wasn't a typo, it's a birdie.

Congrats on your first birdie, and yes like eveyone else said, it is a birdie. Do not worry about if it is to short to be a par 5. I am still looking for my first, i have had about 3 or 4 tries, but missed my first putt and had to settle for a par.

thx for the replies : () It was insanely close to a chip in eagle actually which is also kind of why I was second guessing it.

Solid advise a buddy gave me when I shanked a chip and it went screaming across the green, hit the flag squarely and bounced back stopping 18" from the hole for a tap in for par. . . . . . write the par down and be happy! No pictures on the scorecard! HA

Got my first last season on a course with no official slope or rating, it was (if i remember right) a 340 par 4. Drove it about 230-240 with the wind helping me, then hit a nice pw about 3ft from the hole, jarred the putt and commenced the celebration(until the next hole which as usual, I triple bogeyed haha).

I wouldn´t count it as a birdie if It was me.

My first eagle was the luckiest shot of my life, 4i into the wind on a rainy day on a hole I´m lucky to make par on at the best of weather, couldn´t find the ball until we checked the hole.
I made a proper one last week, got a eagle on a Par 5 the proper way.

count it as your first birdie until you make a better one is what I think.

My first birdie was on a par 3 a couple of years ago, at Mcleansboro,IL, hole 5, about 160 yards, hit a 6 iron to 4 feet and made the putt. To this day it was the best 9 holes ive played as I got a 42(+6) that day, havent matched it since. First birdie this year and only one so far was at Indian Hills in Mt Vernon IL a couple weeks ago on hole 17, a 137 yard par 3, hit 8 iron to about 20 ft and sank the putt.

Considering you almost chipped in, I'd consider it a solid 4 on a 430 yard hole.

I'm still seeking my first birdie. It's great to hear of someone else having accomplished the same thing. Congrats!

my first birdie was a 350 yrd par 4. hit a drive 260 down the fairway. pitching wedge onto the green about 25 feet away from the hole. My friend was looking for his ball while i decided to put out. Luckiest put ever and it went in and no one even saw :/

Haven't gotten my first birdie yet either. You'd think it would be so easy on par threes too! Congrats!

I'd count any birdie... if it's one stroke less than the par posted... it's a birdie. My first was pure luck. It was a par 3 to basically an island green (surrounded by bunkers instead of water). I dropped one in the bunker... skulled the shot out of there... it caught the top of a mound just before the fringe... slowed it down a LITTLE but it was still screaming... it hit the pin and then dropped in. I didn't see it because I was below the level of the green in the trap... but I heard it hit the pin and then my playing partners yelled. As ugly as it was... it was STILL a birdie.
