No, it’s too late in the golf swing. And maybe too much, but could be because it’s too late.

The recentering starts to happen anywhere from A2 to A3. Mine is like A4, body stops and then it starts to recenter.

Oh okay, thanks. Yea I just watched the swing again and I see it now. Kinda doesn't start re-centering until well after A3. Gotcha. Appreciate it, Matt.

So... Just messing around with dropping my hands down from A4 to A6. Take it up to A4, pause, drop hands down and turn slowly through impact. Some like 10-20% swing speed stuff inside. Just trying to pay attention what the body feels when I do this. 

As the hands drop to A6, I automatically feel the revving feeling with the hands as the club wants to close and shallow. From A5, the club just kind of flings itself out at the ball. 

It is strange, because it feels more like I drop the back of my right hand down to my right foot, but as it drops down this revving feel happens.

Maybe it it time to just discuss with my doctor about my back. I thought its as doing pretty well. It was kind of tight on Tuesday, but nothing out of the ordinary for me. I leaned over slightly in a desk chair last night at my football draft, and just felt that sharp pain in the lower back, and it got super tight. I am just like, WTF. 

Maybe I just need to see a specialist or something to see what I need to do. Maybe it will be a good amount of PT or something. I have a standing desk at home. I hardly sit while I work. I try to do 3-4 miles of walking a day. I have been doing some weight lifting, using machines, not free weights, too strengthen up. 

I guess the good thing is, after taking a walk at lunch it started to loosen up and the pain level dropped substantially. 

Maybe this is just something I will have to deal with. I wonder if there are exercises I need to be doing, or muscles I should be strengthening to help out? I do notice that my hip flexors, and psoas muscles feel tight sometimes when this happens. Maybe there is an imbalance there. 

Going to be rehabbing this now.

If you've never had an MRI and don't know whether or not you have a disc issue, you should probably go see someone.

Agreed on seeing a specialist and doing some more rehab for the next few weeks, but the massage gun doesn't help at all? I've been removing so many knots from my back, both near and far from the spine, since I returned to golf in June, and the gun has been the primary tool in winning this battle. You gotta be careful obviously, but the gun has been extremely useful to me. 

Just trying to offer some suggestions, I apologize in advance if you've tried this already or don't believe it's appropriate, but it's amazing how useful the gun can be and how sinister these knot/trigger point/myofascial symptoms can also be sometimes. 

Otherwise tho, it makes sense to see a specialist and get some tests done. I've had so many MRIs I'm actually on a first name basis with my radiologist 😂 (his name is Scott. He loves 50s music). I wish I was kidding. On the plus side, I'm friends now with all my DPTs too so it's super easy for me to get the right rehab prescriptions as soon as I need them, so I got that going for me too 😄!

It is tough when you pinch a nerve. You just got to wait till it eases up. Certain movements just cause a flare up. I do use the massage gun, and it helps.

Matt, I think I have posted before but I went through a few years of random pinched nerve flare ups doing things like getting up from a chair or leaning over to pick up a cup, etc. Long story short, spinal alignment (S curve) was key. I haven't had a flare in years now since I got that worked it. Chiropractic help is good but you have to do it for a long time for it to take effect permanently. I do the same thing by laying on a rolled up wash cloth places under the curve of my lower back for a few minutes every morning. It took a few months but it has taken a permanent set. My posture is different too and feel it even when sitting at the desk. This summer I carried my golf bag for most of my rounds walking with chest out/ shoulders pulled back. That does wonders too believe it or not.

Got a doctors appointment for next Tuesday. I know it probably means I will have little to no pain that day, just how that works, lol. Still, I'll get their opinion on it, and if i should go see a specialist, or get an MRI.

Good that you are going to see someone. Reflecting on my experience with a similar issue in the cervical spine, I will tell you that depending on your insurance, the doctor might be (probably is) forced, by insurance regulations, to try certain things before ordering an MRI or referral.

I had definite symptoms of a cervical nerve root compression; a neurosurgeon colleague/friend examined me and requested an MRI for me. He oughta know, right? It was rejected by insurance because there was no documentation of a trial of "conservative treatment." 

So, my regular doctor documented my symptoms and referred me to physical therapy, and I went for 6 weeks. I got better, but not completely, and still had activity-limiting pain. They then relented and OK'd the MRI. I had 2 herniated discs with some degree of nerve root impingement. 

The point of saying all this is that it's worth it to go through the rigmarole and insurance game-playing to get the MRI, because nerve root compression is potentially amenable to surgery or something like a steroid injection. If you don't ever get it documented, you can end up in this cycle of flare ups that put you out of action repeatedly and never get a more definitive treatment than can have a more enduring benefit. I missed the second part of last golf season with my cervical spine issue, and I'm doing fine this year. But if I get another bad flare up, I now have the injury documented, and it will be easier to get follow up imaging, surgical referrals if it comes to that, etc.

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
