I'll usually leave my 3W out of the bag and play driver/hybrid off of the tee. On short or tight courses, the driver stays home and the 3W takes the tee.

At one period in my past my bag contained 1-iron thru 9-iron, a PW, SW, and two putters (a mallet and a short shafted Bullseye). It worked for me at the time. Sometimes I'd throw in a little square toed PW. My driver and woods were not working for me for several years.

I do carry my 3wood but use it maybe 2-3 times a round tee'd. When confidence is low, my 3h 20* is the stick I use on long par 5s...

For a while I was only using Driver, 5-PW, and 52W 56W 60W and Putter. It was mostly because I could not hit the 3 wood or 5 wood and even had trouble with Hybrids. But I got sick of laying up on Par 5's and got a 5 wood, 3 hybrid and 2 hybrid although not much diference between 2 and 3 hybrids. I'm hitting them well. The previous two years, I used Driver, 2-iron, 3-PW, Gap, Sand, Lob, Putter for my 14 clubs. I actually played pretty well. For the most part, it kept me from thinking about going for it on par 5s, which forced me to play conservatively, for better mostly than worse. And on tight or shorter 4s, I could always blast my 2 iron long and straight.

Now, I have two fairway woods. I actually kind of miss my 2 iron, especially off the tee, but there are times when I am really glad I have my 7 wood. As for my 4 wood, even with a 270 yd drive, I'm still usually about 225 out or longer on a great majority of par 5s. And my 4 wood just doesn't quite go that far off the deck, as I found out this past weekend when trying to clear a large water hazard in front of the green. I was about 5 yards short and I killed that thing!

When your setup is something like D, 2i-PW, SW, LW, P, you're playing without extra woods. Hybrids are essentially short shafted fairway woods.

That might be the set I prefer, as I hit my irons very solid, still need the driver on the longer par 4's. I don't like the hybrids much and my 18* 909F3 is not very consistent........ so I might end up with a lot of Irons and a Driver.

I know there is a big hoop la on Hybirds. But I allways say whatever works the best for you. I myself have played all this year with no woods other than a taylormade driver and a mizuno 7 wood. my 3i see,s alot of use this year. Last year I don,t think even hit my 3 or 5 wood a half dozen times. So unless I go to a course with at least 7000 + yards I,ll leave my 3 and 5 wood home.

Right now i use my 3wd as my driver as i'm driverless for the forseeable future.

When i first started playing i used a 10* driver & a 17* nickent 3dx ironwood with the st90 steel & my irons. Nobody told me long irons or low lofted hybrids were supposed to be hard to hit so i just hit them. Worked pretty well.

Your setup looks smart. Might as well hit the clubs that'll put you in the short grass.

went from a Driver, 3 w, 5 w, 4h set up to

Driver, 4w, 3h, 4h

currently Driver 2h, 3h, 4i

I found that my new mizuno hybrid at 20* is carrying farther than my 18* 4 wood and much more accurate, so I ordered the 17* and the 4w is now living in the garage.

Driver, 3, 5, and 7 woods. I can hit any of them much better than the hybrids I've tried. Besides, I thought hybrids were kind of a fad like the optical putter craze of a few years back. Obviously I was wrong about that...but I still can't hit 'em well.

Driver + hybrids only may be workable for longer hitters.

I don't carry a hybrid, but have test-hit Edge Tour and Adams Idea hybrids which would probably work OK.

Only problem: 3W and 5W go a lot farther, and I need the distance. Plus, I hit fairway woods well on most days.

Focus, connect and follow through!

I carry my 3 wood with me but I don't use it. I'm hitting my driver pretty good right now (for my game anyway) and have much better consistency with my 3h. I tend to chunk my 3 wood a lot so I don't feel comfortable using it.

Having said that, I've spent the last 2 range sessions working the majority of my time on my 3 wood and 3 and 4 hybrids. It's coming around but still have issues snap hooking it.
