I personally feel that it's best to teach kids early that the practice of celebrating the day you came into the world is totally narcissitic, shallow, and materialistic.

How about we celebrate the day the kid gets his first job instead? Much more meaningful if you ask me.

Just kidding.

I really don't care what Tiger does off the course. It's his life to do with as he pleases, I don't yet have kids so I have zero interest in him being a role model or conforming to somebody else's notion of 'acceptable'.

Man, all of this Tiger bashing really gets old. The guy messed up, admitted to it, got help, and his family is trying to get on with their lives. The freaking media drags him through the mud for every little thing he does now. It's ridiculous! I wish he would get on a winning streak so everyone can take the Tiger bashing and stick it where the sun don't shine. I don't think what happens to him in his personal life should be broadcast like that. It's none of our business!!

This is not directed toward the thread starter but the media in general.

He's a pro golfer, WHO CARES!!?? What other promise did he break...to not use his Titleist putter this year?

Seriously, I'm more concerned with having a president who can't show an American birth certificate...

Right on man, it is getting a little old, and it;s starting to turn people back towards Tiger. He's already proven people will support him if he plays great golf. He just needs one really good tournament. I hope it happens soon.

We should all be most concerned about what's happening in the Gulf and what that means for the environment and the economy. It affects every person in North America a little bit more every day (and eventually the world) and it will get much worse before it gets better. You think there was an oil crisis when Hurricane Katrina shut down production in the gulf? Get ready for some

real crises in the coming years now!! People want to focus their anger and anxiety about the future on something or someone. What better scapegoat than a man who was once on a very high pedestal but who's now lost his family and treads water among the other players in the chase group.

Tiger has a job to play in tournaments, and with sponsors leaving him left right and centre, he has to at least play the majors. In normal circumstances, Elin and the kids would be with him, but considering she is a bit pissed off, she and the kids aren't around. Not his fault at all. Just Elin not letting Tiger see his own kid.

IMO, the whole spiel he put together about how hurt he was by having to miss his kid's bday while in rehab was designed to make us feel sorry for him, so if the statement is used to show that he wasn't sincere, so be it. Maybe whether or not he misses his kid's birthday is none of our business, but HE was the one that chose to bring up that point previously.

Do you take the day off on your kid's birthday? I would have to say that 99% of parent's that have a full time job, do not take a vacation day when their kid's birthdays come up. Tiger is no different. I am sure that he was very sincere in saying that he missed his kids birthday in the past. Golf is his job with a major being like the most important meeting at work. Being a professional golfer takes some sacrifices that lead to great things. To hammer a guy that missed his kid's birthday because he was at work when the majority of the parent's in the world have broken a promise to their kids at one time or another, does not warrant it being in the national news. Regardless of who brought up what in the past, there are more important things to have in the news than a broken promise from Tiger. That is my point.

if you really believe what you wrote earlier, you are extremely willfully ignorant. if you care to know why PM me.

Isn't the US Open always played at this time each year, so won't Tiger miss her birthday every year he plays in the Open unless she is always at that venue?

He could have had a birthday PARTY for her when he returned. What, now he can't play golf on days like that because his kid's birthday will sometimes fall during the U.S. Open?

I echo the "who cares?" comment and use a little-used feature on the site: the ability to rate a thread.

    • I don't follow the LIV tour so for starters somebody would have to tell me that they are coming. Even if tickets were free I probably wouldn't go. I'm just not interested.  I've been to a fair amount of PGA Tour Tournaments in my life. I've even attended two US Opens... One men's, and one women's. I've been to college and high school tournaments as well.  I'd actually be more interested in attending a Korn Ferry Tournament or an Epson Tour Tournament. Which reminds me the Nationwide Chlidren's Hospital Championship in September is right down the street. I should get tickets.
    • LIV golf was pretty close to me in 2023, at the same course that hosted the 2023 Senior PGA.  I didn't go to either one.  I do know a few people who went to the LIV event, and they said it was pretty well attended and pretty well run.  If I had free tickets, I might show up, but I'd probably have to drive 10 miles to park to get a shuttle to come back to within 5 miles of my house.
    • As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go.  I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
    • I would definitely buy tickets and go watch a round or two.
