I think it's pretty common for most golfers, but I was wondering if anyone ever feels like they have what it takes to get on tour? I know I don't have the skill, but I mean the desire to do so. Do you guys think about it? And what would you do if you got on tour?

I think about it all the time..........Then I look at my handicap and remember I suck. :(

my get up and go musta got up and went..

If you're asking if I would want the life of the average tour pro, then the answer is no. Practice is boring, repetitive, and non-social. It's an isolated life. It has little mental stimulation. It's a lot of traveling. It's tough to have a real family life.

You can pretty much substitute any sport and my answer would be the same. I've played quite a few of them to at least a decent level (say, equivalent to a starter on a high school team), and it was always the same. I like the part of "getting better" -- usually getting to about the 90th percentile -- but going any further is not worth it to me. It ceases to be fun and it becomes like a job, so then I move on to the next sport/activity that peaks my interest.

As I have played in more tournaments myself and experience defeat and victory, I can honestly say that I have no desire to compete on tour. Having sponsors and playing the nicest courses is great, but the immense pressure on your swing and ever single shot to make money would be too much. I have trouble playing when there is nothing on the line, playing for my livelihood would be too much.

I want to qualify for and win the US Open then quit and never touch a club again.

yes, sometimes i do. i have no doubt that i have the physical ability to do it, and my goal is to have the handicap which would allow me to do a monday qualifier for the byron nelson or the colonial in a couple years and try out for the u.s. and british opens. but on the other hand, i get frustrated too easily and have been known to have really bad blow up holes. right now i've got a swing coach and i'm focused on ingraining my fundamentals, which hopefully by the end of the summer i'll have a solid swing down and will feel comfortable and confident enough to shoot par or lower on some difficult layouts.

Sure....."day dreaming". Then I gain consciousness and realize I'm at work and need to finish up my current project so I can hurry home to take my son to Basketball practice.

I thought about it, but I don't think the tour players can keep up with my score. I use the logic of "normal" sports. The higher score wins, lol. Just JK.

Think about it every day. The cure for me is to go see a tournament in person then I realize how different my game is from pros, LOL.

Seriously, I think most avid golfers regardless of skill dream about it at one time or another--thinking it would be the dream job. As others have mentioned, it is a grind. And no I don't seriously think I could do it.

Practicing correctly? Pick target. Hit ball at target. I think I got it.

And mentally stimulating? See previous line. It doesn't quite do it for me.

Yeh I thought about it but it would never happen, I would prbably do a Dustin Johnson and choke on the practice ground, never mind the first tee lol

I wouldn't mind giving that AM Tour a go though, but even that cost a lot of money, if you start adding up the traveling costs, entry fees etc, my wife suggested I go for it then we looked at the numbers!

I remember how frustrated I got when I missed a 5 footer to pick up a $2 skin. Can't even begin to imagine it if that missed putt cost me $20K, or $50K, or even $100K. No thanks.
