You are some kind of super-senior, there, fella.

LMAO Now that was a perfect response. Surely the 60 year old long distance runner knows he is the exception to a very old and very slow rule right?

I must say i played with an 87 year old guy, who hit his driver on a 90 yard par 3. Yet if he felt he was slowing us down by any type of irritating margin ,he wasn't generally, then he picked up. I'd play with that guy again no problem.

I found this out about my course on thursday afternoons after 3:30. My home course has 3 leagues at the same taking up all three 9 hole courses at the same time. I walked on as a single at 3:45, finished my 9 hole round at 7:20. I normally wouldn't care, but since the twosome behind me wouldn't join with me I ended up playing it all by myself which sucks when you are waiting extra time before you can hit any shots, no one to lighten the mood or joke around with lol. Even with headphones for my iPhone it just took for...ev......errrrrrrr. So note to self, NEVER play thursdays after 3:30, and make sure I make the turn before then if I tee off earlier :P

Tuesday morning is 1/2 price at our course and with the perfect weather the course was full, as a single I got paired with two grandfathers and there granddaughter who they proclaimed was just learning. I fell into the trap of thinking this was going to be excruciatingly slow, they teed off and duffed their shots less than 50 yards, the granddaughter then stepped up and put it out just short of my tee shot. They immediately jumped in their cart raced to the ball and both put them down the fairway 150 yards, I never saw them hit a ball further than 150, but once within 50 of the green it was always a chip and putt and on to the next tee where we waited for the group ahead to clear the way. The granddaughter eventually started to ride in my cart and I found out it was only her second year of golf and she was looking forward to being one of the top varsity players as a junior next year (she was very good for her age and experience and had played varsity in her first year of golf). Was one of the quicker nines I've played, these guys wasted no time in getting the ball in the hole, and were teaching their granddaughter the same. I have never seen so many up and downs in nine holes of golf, all four of us were having a great day around the greens and it was very enjoyable nine holes.

I played with an old guy that was the same way. He couldn't hit the ball over 150 yards, but was deadly accurate, and shot about 4 over for the round. Kind of sad when you bomb a drive 260, his is 150, and he still beats you into the hole.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Inconsistency sux :( I play with the same guy, he hits a 7 wood every shot. He could conceivably play with a 7 wood, pitching wedge and putter.

"Wacky Wednesdays are back for Seniors at CHUCK CORICA! $30 per player includes: green fee, power cart rental and a small bucket of range balls to warm up with. Valid anytime on Wednesdays: July 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th on both the Earl Fry & Jack Clark Courses for Seniors over the age of 62. "

I see a lot of the "old, grumpy, slow" opinions on this forum. But I play with a foursome that the youngest is 65 oldest is 75 and we play 18 in less than four hours, if we don't get held up by Testosterone poisoned 20 somethings who think golf is about how far instead of how many. Our best player is a 5 handicap and I am the least proficient at 20. But I just would like to say that where we are now you'll be someday if you're lucky and anytime you paint a group of individuals with a broad brush you show ignorance.

Just don't linger on the green counting your score beads when my group is on the fairway 250 yards out - some of us who still produce testosterone will likely have a go from there. Just be kind enough to point out the line where my ball entered the trees or the water. Seriously, long hitters who can't hit the ball straight are way slower - unless they bring lots of balls and just take drops, which never seems to happen.

Wednesday evening @ my home course = Ladies league... I can tee off on 10 (walking) as the last group goes off 1 and I still catch the gals around 5 or 6. Good thing about it is its a bunch or rich old broads who really dont give a damn so if they hit one off the fairway they say screw it and hit another never getting the original ball. Free golf balls for me playing up behind them almost makes up for the slow play... almost.

The old guys that play out there, on the other hand, are a hoot. We had a mens association event this morning and I was the youngest im my group by a good 30 years (im 28). They constantly crack on each other, flirt with the cart girls, try to get me dates with the cart girls (they failed) and while they cant hit the ball very far you get them on the green there is a 75% chance the ball is going the hole. Old guys can putt. They are old salesmen and when on trips back in the day they spent their free time dropping dimes around their hotel rooms and trying to stop the ball on the dimes. All the older guys I get paired with are just about the same out there.

I have no problem w/ the "old" guys and I think some of us are guilty of being a bit too harsh and sterotypical w/ the seniors.

I'm one of those "testosterone fueled" 20 something year olds and yet the seniors that I've played w/ and have seen are actually pretty darn good players. Will they hit it 300 yards? No, but they keep it in the fairway and their short games are great.

I've been humbled a time or two by a senior playing partner.

I don't know. Maybe it's just my area or my course, but the seniors around here are serious, good golfers.
