For me, it depends on how much green there is. My first thought is to get the ball on the green and let it run to the hole. So if I am 10' off the green and have 50' to the hole (40' of roll), I will use a 7i. If I am 10' off the green and have 25' to the hole, I will use SW or LW depending on if the green is running away or towards me. However, if the ball will break 5 times or on the pin is on top of a two tier green (I am below) I would rather fly it to the hole. I don't like to box myself in with one club. The important thing for me is to visualize how the ball will get to hole and commit to it.

PW or SW for me but most of the time, I'm more comfortable with the PW.

FW 5W BIG BERTHA DIABLO 18* Graphite
Irons X-22 IRONS 5 - PW & SW GraphitePutter Odyssey Dual Force Rossie IIUnder my bag: 2007 EZGO ~ Customized

i use my 56 degree CG15 about 99% of the time; with my 9i, PW, or 52 degree filling in the other 1%.

i really want to start experimenting with various clubs around the greens though...

In my ORG 14 Cart Bag:

Hybrid: 2i Hi-Bore 4i XLS Hi-BoreIrons: X-22 Tour w/ Project X 6.0 shafts (5-PW)Wedges: CG15 52 and 56Putter: Red XBalls: HX Hot Bites

If my ball is say a foot from the green - putting stroke with a 5 wood (my friends laugh at this shot, but even a bad one will be near the pin. It takes may variables out of the equation - all you need to judge is speed and break)

10 Foot from the green - pitching wedge

Over an obstacle - 60 degree and open it right up if I dont have much green to work with

I use a PW exclusively as long as I don't have to carry something. If I do I go with my 60. I use the putter a lot off the green too

NEVER WITH A LOB
RARELY WITH A SAND
IF REQUIRE I USE A PITCH
9 IRON
8IRON (MOST USED)
7IRON (MOST USED)
6IRON

Depends on the carry to the green then the amount of green to the pin, the aim is to get the ball on the green rolling as quickly as possible if that means a putting type stroke with a 6 iron then that is the club - lobbing it high is only for when something prevents you hitting it low.

In the US this is totally different in my experience but I dont live in the US

I use 7I-PW depending upon the lie, amount of green/break/speed. On rare occasion I use my 26* hybrid with a putting grip and stroke. I never pitch when I can chip.

Getting the ball on the green as fast as possible has helped me tremendously. I used to use only 52º and 58º, but after a lot of poor chipping I decided to try something else. Now I use mostly 8i, 9i and PW. I'll probably do some practice to try out even lower irons, but they also get longer. With the shaft leaning forward, you don't have a lot of loft on an 8i. Doing this, along with picking a spot to land the ball, as opposed to focusing on the flag, has changed my game around the greens. Today I got up and down 4/5 times.

After reading this thread I tried using the 8i to chip. So far its been VERY successful. I had used a 60 degree lob wedge, but popped it short a lot.

In my cart bag:
Driver - K15 10.5 degree
3 Hybrid - SQ
Irons (4-AW) - Burner HT
Putter - Ignite 002Ball - Noodle+ Long and Soft

If i am 3-30 yards off the green I use the 9 iron and try to keep it on the ground.
31-60 yards-60 degree wedge to lob it on the green(this is a very poor part of my game)
61-100 years-pitching wedge(I find this club much easier)

I truly do believe that for me chipping is more important than putting. I waste a good 6-10 shots around ontaking 3 shots to score from 10 yards off of the green. I'd like to see this # shrink to 3-6 shots wasted before the end of the year.

I pretty much always use my 56 or my 9i. 56 if I'm trying to get it in the air and 9i if its close and/or there's no rough to go through and I want to do a little bump and run.

If i am 3-30 yards off the green I use the 9 iron and try to keep it on the ground.

My best rounds last year were when I missed the green in the right spot and chipped very close. I'm hitting more greens this year and that puts more pressure on the putter. I chip with every club in the bag when I'm on the range, but on the course it's typically a wedge. Some types of irons are better for chipping than others - try chipping with older irons (like old blades) and you'll see what I mean.

1) PW when there is room for the ball to roll. Move it forward or back in stance to control trajectory.

2) 56° SW when I need to add spin or want to loft it high and land soft.
