I teed the ball up on the elevated tee box of my golf course. I take out my nine iron, and take a deep breath of cool early morning air. I bend my head down, look at the ball, and aim it up into the pin, hitting into the sun. I swing the club back, and hit the purist 9 iron shot I ever have, and I watch the ball fly into the air. I follow it down to within two feet of the pin, where it begins to roll towards the cup.. I watched it roll, and roll, and roll, to about two inches past.

I was alone.
There were no witnesses.

What would you do if you were flying solo, and made a hole in one?

What I would do? Be happy and play on, then proceed to tell my friends, family and e-friends about it later. Doesn't matter to me if it happens with a gallery or not, if they won't believe it, so be it.

I was thinking I would probably cut back to the club house.. Because knowing me I'd go HIO bogey bogey bogey.

One time I was playing a par 3 course by myself and on back to back holes I hit my tee shot to the lip of the cup, leaving a big pitch mark, only to have it roll back a few feet. The holes were only about 110 downhill so I was hitting a SW, hence the backspin. Those are tied for the closest I've ever come to a hole in one.

Won the closest to the pin yesterday on a 157yd par 3 hole at my home course. It was during our 12 team four man 4th of july scramble. Put it 2 1/2 ft of the hole, thought it was going in. Kinda glad it didn't, wasn't much on buying 48 people drinks lol!

It'd be better to have wtinesses, of course, but my bigger fear is making my first ever HIO on a horrible shot that just happens to go in.

Such as about a week ago I played at our local course and on the 197 yard par 3 16th I toed the heck out of a 5-wood and then watched it take a giant, hooking, circuitous arc to the green, just missing some trees and OB right, but eventually rolling up and across the hole stopping within about 1 foot.

That shot really should have been either in jail, or OB.

If it ever happened to me while playing alone, i would take out my cell phone and take a video from the tee box to the hole as some sort of video evidence. Just for some proof for my friends.

I have had two lip outs for HIO, one was 176yds and the other was 123yds, both lipped out around the cup and sat up about an inch or two behind the cup. the 176yd one was seen by the group ahead of us, they were sitting in their carts writing their scores in and heard it land, looked up at started shouting, I didn't see how close it was but they told me.

I know a woman who totally bladed her tee shot, the ball went about two feet off the ground, skipped across the water ran up the green and went in, she was playing in a ladies league group and not one of them congratulated her, whether it was luck or not it still went in, after all HIO's are still part luck.

What I did in December.... I congratulated myself and told others later. In April this year I hit a 6i on a 162yd par three to 2ft of the hole. It was witnessed by about 7 players. They all thought it was a great shot, I agreed but after getting a HIO close isn't as big a deal anymore.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

I was playing last year at a Robert Trent Jones course in Alabama, and there was a short par 3 that I hit PW into. We were paired with a couple strangers who were awesome and outgoing. Well, I hit my shot and there was a tiny ridge in front of the hole. Well I was slightly taller than any in our group, and my ball went past the hole and down the ridge...so it looked like it went in but only I saw it apparently. Well one of the strangers FREAKED out and like started screaming and jumping up and down yelling "HOLY SH** DUDE YOU JUST GOT A HOLE IN ONE!!" and I'm like "Nah, nah bro it was almost one! There's a ridge there!" And then his smile disappeared and there was this awkward moment of realization...

Worst birdie ever by the way :D.

heres my closest this year
it released to 3 feet or so
as you can tell the green WAS in horrible shape and you couldnt hold anything on this green
i missed the birdie............
i was with 2 buddies and a foursome waiting behind us...we all though it was within inches

if i was alone........not sure actually......

If I hit a par 3 in one and do not get a HIO, it's the greens keeper's fault for not putting the hole in the correct place. :)

was playing yesterday and luckily had my regular playing partners with me. 4th hole of the day was a par 3, 190 yards playing to about 180(downhill). I stuck the ball about 3 feet short on a deadline between my tee and the flag. Closest I've ever come to a hole-in-one. Later in the round, one of the other guys did the same thing on a 120 yard par 3..left about 3 feet. We both missed the birdie putts!

Hahahaha, that would be scary. I remember that commercial, it's a strange one.

I had a close one today too ... 3 Hybrid on a 193 par 3 - rolled to within 6 inches. I thought about what I would do if I holed one of these ... basically I'd take a photo with my phone, send it to my golf buddies and tell them I owe them a round, then just play on ...

Run to one of the neighbor's houses & make them check the cup. Seriously.

How does that help anything? You could've run over to the green, put the ball in the hole and ran back.
