If you are not a long hitter like me, 6 iron from 155 yards.

If it's out of your range then play it like a par 4. Hit something safe short of the green, try to get up and down for par. Walk away with bogey at the very worse.

I approach 200+ par 3's by figuring out how far it is to the front of the green, and then choose my club accordingly. If I could fly it 195 and still make the green then that's the shot I go for. For amateurs like us, i think anywhere on the green is a great shot for a 200+ par 3, so don't get too fancy and try to pin seek on a hole like that.

Good advice. Forget about 211 yards, how would you play a hole 65 yards longer than your 6-iron. For me that's either a short par 4 or a very very long par3.

9 iron, perhaps a PW depending on the wind.

I've been having a hard time with the 200ish yard par 3's. I have been going with a 3hybrid and hitting it either way left or right because I don't have control with my woods/long irons.

The playing it like a short par 4 is really outstanding advice and is how I'm going to play them now. I'll probably try hitting 5i/6i and hopefully leaving a short little pitch onto the green.

Give it a shot, it works well, and without the pressure of having to reach a green that's way out there you'll most likely make a better swing and be surprised how close you come to the green anyway.

In my league there's a par 3 that when the tees are back plays 200+ and they'll tuck the pin back right sometimes, there's a pond just right of the green as well. If there's any wind at all it's usually howling right in our face. The hole can be brutal. I play short left to avoid the water, walk away with the my bogey (sometimes par) and I'm a happy man.

4 iron. Let it bounce up. If theres other factors wind hit a low 3wood and make a safe chip on.

Depending on the wind, elevation changes, hazards present etc. I would be deciding between my 3 and 4 irons

Yeah I mean win and elevation changes would play a major part. It could be anywhere from 19* hybrid to a 3 or 4 iron.

I have a swing speed of 50 mph. I will be laying up with a driver and leave 100 yards to take care of with my 3 wood.

There was a story (dunno if it's true or not) that floated around for a while.

Ben Hogan was playing in a Pro-Am and one of the am players kept asking him what club he used for each shot. Finally, Ben had enough and took 3 balls out his bag and dropped them in the fairway next to each other. He hit each ball with a different club and stuck all his shots within 10' of the flag. He turns to his am partner and says, "Don't f*cking ask me again what club I used.".

The moral of the story is that it really doesn't matter what club you use. Club selection will vary depending on a player's ability, the conditions, and the type of shot a player chooses hit. So, there's no universal "right" club for a particular distance.

Yeah, ol' Ben Hogan's always doin' sh** like that! Why, just last week . . . what?

LOL. I'm sure Tiger would appreciate it if Ben came back. It would be pretty remarkable given the guy died in '97. It would definitely get the press off Tiger's porch.

depends on condition and who I am playing with and whether or not I am playing for money. But assuming sea level and nornal humidity and I am playing for money-Younger guys, I 'll muscle up and hit a 5, and even if I hit it flush, I'll tell them that I missed it. Older guys who play their own game,I just hit a 4.

I'd go with a 3 wood or a 5 wood depending on where the pin is on the green, wind speed and direction, and whether I'm going uphill to downhill or vice-versa.

7 iron - 3 wood.

I have 210 yard par three I play often with OB left and some trouble trees right, a good swing on a good day its a 5 wood for me. Other days I play defensive and lay up with a mid iron. My average score on this hole is better when I lay up. Given my cap, a 4 is not a bad score on this hole, but a 5 or 6 kills the round.

It really depends on the circumstance. Is it downhill? Is there a little bit of fairway for the ball to run up? I hit my 5 iron about 190-200 yrds flat, but if it's downhill I would probably go with the 5 iron. Otherwise it would be 4 hybrid.

I would use a 3 hybrid, I hit my 6i about 160 yards, so you are on the same boat as me.
