I wouldn't play from the tees that had a 211 yard par 3. That's just too long for my skill level. I'd be hitting 5-wood and hoping.

I'm a short hitting (220yard drives) midhandicap and I played last weekend with 11 other players. Most of the other 11 are single digit caps who hit it a lot farther than me. We played closest to the pin on all par 3's.

The 17th hole was a 205 yard par 3 into the wind. I ended up hitting driver on this hole and landed 12 feet from the hole and won closest to the pin. Everyone got a chuckle out of this but I've grown tired of coming up short on long par 3's.

There was a story (dunno if it's true or not) that floated around for a while.

It's annoying if my partner keeps asking me what club I use for every shot. Plus Ben Hogan is a legendary Pro golfer who, of course, can hit longer than most of us. I wouldn't dare ask him what club he uses for every shot.

In my question, I mentioned for golfers who hit 6 iron 155 yards. So I want to know from guys who has the same yardage as me. Lots of guys answered they use 3 or 4 iron. My 3 iron is only 190 yards and 4 iron is 180ish. My 5 Wood is only 195-200 yards. So I was wondering what can I use for a long par 3 with 211 yards to go? The condition is Normal cloudy day with slight wind. The pin is in the middle of the green. 211 yards to the pin. There are high bushes between the tee and the green. There is no way you shoot with 6 iron and shoot a second shot to the green.

This is from the white tee. Would you tee off from the red tee (Ladies) ?

Choke down and your driver and swing smoothly.

I hate really long par 3's, they're way too hard.

This is good advice. I said I'd use 3 iron, 4 iron, or 5 wood-but I've played shots of this distance with anything from 6 iron up to Driver. A choked down 80% smooth driver shot may be just the ticket.

Same here. I typically play from the tees where the par 3s are under 200 yards. For the most part, this correlates to an 18-hole yardage of well under 6900 yards. There are some exceptions (a 6800 set of blue tees with a par 3 that is 240 yards), and I just take my medicine on that hole. If it's windy, I play it as a par 4, if I feel comfortable going for the green, I use 3w. Driver is too risky as there is OB right, and I can usually reach with my 3w.

I think a 1-iron might be the real ticket!

I have a 4 and a 5 hybrid.. I still have a 4i and a 5i. I use hybrids out of the rough if i don't have a clean shot at the ball. I would never use one out of the fairway far better control with a iron.

Point taken. Hand me my 5-wood then, and stand back, guys.

This would, theoretically, be my 19 deg. hybrid distance. But I just can't seem to control direction well enough with that one at the moment (usually pull it), so I'd probably hit an easy 5W instead. Right now I own the 5W.

Oh yeah I forgot ..... when I hit a 6i cleanly (small ball first) then it goes 155-160 yds.
