Watching the Bridgestone Invite, Phil loses his drive out to the left and drops a very loud and clear "G-D".... which in my book is just as bad as an f-bomb....you would think the PGA would just quit using a mic on tee boxes, or get quicker at hitting the "mute" button! I hear more cursing watching golf on TV than watching football, but I KNOW there is 100x more profanity on the football field/sidelines since I work there every saturday.

Part of me had to post this just b/c I get sick of Tiger being singled out for his cursing when they all do it!

Why would they stop using mic's?I want to hear any outbursts, personally.Nothing wrong with players showing a little personality and emotion out there.

Tiger gets singled out because he's on TV the most and he's curses when he hits a bad shot. I don't hold it against him that much but he should understand he's on tv more than anyone else. I thought Phil said gosh darn it honestly but I was on my way out of the room when it happened so I didn't catch it clearly.

How is God Damnit as bad as the f bomb?

Not even in the same category. I would say God Damnit would of offended very little of the viewers.

Do you guys really get "offended" by these words? Even the F-bomb? I could see if Tiger dropped a racial slur or called a woman several choice words, but he's directing these all at himself.

I thought Phil said gosh darn it honestly but I was on my way out of the room when it happened so I didn't catch it clearly.

It was pretty clearly God Dammit.

How is God Damnit as bad as the f bomb?

When you stop to think that many people in the world would consider this taking God's name in vain and that they take it seriously, it's easy to understand why people would get offended by such language. I'm not really offended by people using such language personally but as a parent with small children who 1. are like sponges and 2. like watching what their daddy is watching I have to be careful as I don't want to them to walk up to their teacher or grand parents and say either of those words or other "four letter words". I'm not looking for golfers to be role models but it does take some enjoyment out of watching golf when I have to worry about what my kids might hear.

Most parents wouldn't think twice about plopping their kid in front of SpongeBob but to let a golfer say something is blasphemy! Just watch it with the mute button on.

Oh, watching Tiger play right now is like watching a hacker. He's doing stuff I did a week ago.

Once Phil shows up with a 30inch-Driver the cursing will stop - PROMISED!

But until then, what are you supposed to do if you cant hit a fairway to save your life - bless the golf god? I dont think so.

I also don't think "God Dammit" is as eggregious as the dreaded "F word"; however, I also understand some people's sensibilities are different from others. I also don't know why Tiger Woods gets singled out because his use of intemperate language isn't really any better or worse than that of others I've heard on the tour. I once heard Curtis Strange say "Goddamned m-----f-----g sonofabitch" after hitting a bad one off the tee in the U.S. Open several years ago. I thought it was funny at the time but it just goes to show that the guys on tour are human beings after all.

First of all, there is no conspiracy, The reason Tiger gets singled out is the fact he is the main point of focus on the weekends
(even when he is not really a factor) and he swears alot...It ends up on TV alot, but like you said no big deal, S--t happens! But on the flip side there is a certain respect and sportsmanship expected and even more so in golf. I can deal with the foul language, we all do it now and again, and again and again. I have a problem with the club smashing and the flipping of the club at the bag and general temper tantrums..rarely seen on TV but more so in person.

As for Phil, the reason you dont hear it that often from him, is he just doesnt do it much.

and I am one of those people that is more offended by GD than the Fbomb...not a bible beater, just one of those "the way I was raised" things.

Taking the Lord's name in vain is a violation of one of the ten commandments. To those not tainted by the socialistic political correctness this is not as big a deal as the slang term for intercourse. Sorry! There is no commandment to not say the F bomb so it is illogical to consider it worse than a violation of one of the ten commandments. For those ignorant of the commandments, thou shalt no lie if one also. Yet I think there are a bunch of liars out there in this golfing land. It is worse to lie than to say the F bomb. Adultery is another of those commandment thingies. Tiger being a Buddist was able to violate a whole bunch of those commandments. Tiger can say F bombs but I don't want him to use Jesus Christ but that isn't his God. Buddah damn it would be more appropriate for him.

Hmm, swearing on the course. I don't have to tune into a PGA event to hear swearing on the course and many times the PGA guys are mild comparatively speaking.

Granted a litney of explitives gets old very quick. Although I can't do much about it doesn't mean that I have to act like that also.

    • ..maybe 1 shot HC change might be a good starting point..
    • Yeah, I have a similar view. I was in the team of 2 and we got down 5 after 5. Get 1 pt if win the hole - whatever that game is called. We lost it 3 down with 2 to play so almost saved it. After the first hole when the single did a putt, then dropped a second ball, made a slight adjustment and sunk it, we thought it wasn't right. We couldn't do anything with handicaps etc so we just made them wait between putts - usually just one of us to putt. We were a 23 and 25 handicappers (probably playing to about 28) and the single was a 16 handicapper, but somehow had a HC of 20 (so that is 1 HC pt already). In terms of making it fair, and changing HC (HC1 + HC2 / 4), I think maybe adding 2 HCs to the double (or taking 2 HC off the single (after the adding and div by 4) might make it fair. Also maybe making a rule that the single couldn't change clubs for the second hit. Hard to say from that one game but possibly: - 2 shot HC adding - can't change clubs for second shot - need to have other team putt in between their 2 putts   Not sure. Do you think you'd still win or have these rules made it unfair the other way? Cheers for thoughts..
    • In that case I double down on my comments - I'll take the single guy and I know if I'm in that match against two similar players I'm pretty confident that I'm the favorite.
