At one point in time, every single professional golfer likely had to deal with most of these things. They didn't just become a pro over night. Many played on the same crappy courses that everyone else plays on as they were developing their skills.

True. But this thread is stuff they don't have to deal with as a pro.

Dealing with JACKASSES like us (myself included) that think the world is their oyster because they are "pros".

I couldn't be a pro, not only because I suck at the game, but I could NOT deal with the added pressure of making my meager mortgage payment based on how I finish a golf tourney! On the other hand a 67th place finish in a low end tournament is likely more than I make in a good year!

I don't really understand why people complain about this. Are shanks less common from the forward tees? It seems to me that one's speed playing through a hole has very little to do with tee selection, and everything to do with consistent ball striking.

My personal pet peeve. I hate getting bad unnatural lies in bunkers. I mean by unnatural as someone's F**king footprint, a S&&ty; F**king rake job. I don't mind getting a buried lie, sitting down, under the lip, whatever.

Just rake the G*D Da*M F**king bunker and do it right. Geez it pisses me off the lazy people. Bunker shots are hard enough, not to have to deal with the ball sitting in some A#Shole's F**king footprint.

Rant over.

I like it when you see foot prints but no evidence someone took a stance and hit a ball - what were they doing? Imagine having an early tee time and seeing bumprints and kneeprints - zoinks!

I've noticed this too. They do get caught in divots occasionally, but not nearly as often as you would think. Am I right in assuming that the greens crews come out after each round in a pro tourney and improve the divots as much as they can?

You would probably be correct. But pros also take solid divots which always get replaced by their caddies. Also, on a lot of holes they'll adjust the tees so that they're balls are landing in a relatively good part of the fairway and not the area that was chewed up the day before.

Leaves laying all over the course in the fall. Sad when it takes 5 minutes to find your ball in the middle of the fairway.

actually, pros deal with completely divoted up fairways. its amazing that when i watch on tv the shots from the blimp that they dont hit into divots more often. Since all those guys are so radar locked on targets, there is a general consensus on a lot of holes on where the best place to be is off the tee and since they are so good at hitting those targets, there are massive areas of divots that im sure many players hit into that we dont see on tv, but i am amazed at how many times the ball is inches from about 6 divots but yet still finds grass

I agree. It's amazing they aren't in more divots in the fairway.

One's speed playing a hole is dependent on the length and difficulty of the hole, and therefore on tee selection.

your right, shanks happen from all sets of tees

but the difference is when dude love shanks his from the back tees 5o yards, his next shot is followed by another duff 30 yards in the opposite direction and we see this all the way doen the hole - therefore a round that should take 4 to 4.5 hours, takes 5+ but because the back tees are the "man" tees, he feels the need to hit from there your staement contradicts itself " one's speed playing through a hole has very little to do with tee selection, and everything to do with consistent ball striking. " how can playing from a set of tees that is accustomed to your score, not help speed up play? especially when you hit the ball an average of 100 yards w every club? (not YOU personally, in general) anyways...back on topic

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
