Well, sort of. He was on my shuttle train between the Orlando Airport arrival terminals and main terminal. I was next to him when I noticed him, but I didn't bother him. I did notice he saw my golf shirt with a course logo and he leaned forward a little to read the name. All I did was say "Hi" and he nodded.

On the escalator down from the terminals he was in front of me. Ahead of him some guy turned around and said "Hey Nick, I make my wife watch golf every weekend." Nick didn't hear him and said "What?" and the guy repeated himself. Nick heard him the second time and didn't seem interested. The guy's wife jumped off the bottom of the escalator and turned around to snap a picture of Nick behind her husband. Nick didn't seem interested.

Just curious, if you saw a famous golfer out in public would you say something crazy or just let them be? I personally wanted to just let him have his personal space. I also think the dude who said something sounded like a douche because I'm pretty sure he really doesn't make his wife watch golf every weekend. Even if he does, he still sounded like a douche.

I'd definitely say something supportive if I didn't mind the guy; "love watching you golf, keep up the good work" or something, but wouldn't make a big deal unless he was in my top 3 golfers of all time (at which point I'd ask for an autograph).

I'd leave them be, I think a lot of pro golfers wouldn't be too friendly anyway, so I'd just skip it and tell people I saw him

I never saw a golfer but I did see Phillies pitcher Cole Hammels eating at a Cosi's. I did not say anything to him, I am sure they get tired of that and I did not want to be the one that drew attention to him.

Yeah, I kind of have the same feeling. However, if I ever ran into Ryan Moore I'd give him a holler. I'd be disappointed if he wouldn't be cool with you.

I've had a fair number of run ins with pro athletes and I've never bothered them. My sister and I were at a gas station in Oakland several years ago and saw NBA player Baron Davis, I gave him a "What's up, Baron?", nonchalantly, and he gave me a thumbs up.

Maybe say something stalker-ish/mildly creepy...."Hey Nick, I sometimes fall asleep watching golf on TV with your sweet accent right there with me"

haven't met any pro golfers randomly in public. but aside from an incident at a club here in dallas with a couple mavericks guy, which in the end turned out to be positive and us having a couple drinks together, i've never had a bad experience meeting a professional athlete. last year i actually had dinner in an airport wendy's with the leading money winner on the PBR(bull riding) tour in atlanta, who happened to be from the same town in east texas as my mom. he was smarter than you'd think for someone who decides to ride bulls for a living. of the golfers i've met at a golfing event: ernie els and boo weekley; they were both really cool fellas.

Isn't Faldo well known for blanking people? Not surprised he wasn't interested in talking to that guy. Almost every Golfer I've tried to talk to or been around when others have tried to talk to them have been cool. Martin Kaymer came over to a group of us to sign and chat for a few minutes, mostly joking about his Karting crash last year. Nick Watney is a very nice guy. Same with Ernie, Jim Furyk and Rory. From what I've seen they'll talk to anyone. Poulter and Stenson I found to be a bit rude and aloof.

When I was a bagger at one of my local grocery stores I met stewart cink, it was ten at night so he was the last person i'd expect to be coming through my line haha. I just told him it was an honor to meet the Open Champion, and I shook his hand, he was really nice about it. I met his wife and one of his sons too, really nice family. I later realized he has a house on the lake near me, thats why he was in the store :)

A new or quasi-celebrity might give you the time of day, but the really big names / faces have to be wary. There are a lot of freaks out there and taking public transportation is stressful at the best of times. At least at the airport the people you run into are less likely to be armed.

Saying something isn't out of line as long as it's nothing more than a simple hello. Outside of that, it's out of line unless said person continues on the discussion with you and then you can feel free to be more chatty.

You have to think how they feel with having to hear strangers talk to them constantly. I hate it when the random person talks to me at the grocery check out line, so I can't imagine if I had to deal with that every single time I left the house.

If I met tiger woods I'd say "Hey, where is there a good strip club around here, you wanna roll with?"

Anybody else I probably wouldn't recognize without a hat on.

I don't get the level of dissection. People are people. If you ran into the janitor from your building on the street, you'd say hi, and maybe some kind of how's it going comment. People who are famous for what they do are still people, and working in the music business I've met and often worked with such people, as well as having personal friends who are professional athletes from different sports.

People are people. Wilt Chamberlain was a good example. When I was a kid, the first time I met him, I bumped into him, literally, his kneecap. He found it quite funny, and I actually hung out with him a few times thereafter, and he was a nice guy deserving of friendship from anyone. He was a sweet man, with a wonderful attitude. Pete Rose... Well, he's a dick, no surprise. I've had multiple close acquaintances who play or played in the NFL. A bit less scholarly than I'd perhaps like. I zone out when someone in public starts to talk to them about their team, season, players, strategy, etc, I don't have any clue what that stuff means. Again, mostly nice guys, or I wouldn't be friends with them. Again, people are people. Doesn't matter what they've done in life.
