HAHA well we always talk about wanting to get the spin on the ball like the pros and what not. I'm accomplishing that now more and more. But I keep spinning it back and off the green. I wanted this power and now i'm not so sure I want it anymore.

I hit my approach shot with a 52* wedge (vokey) about 2 feet passed the hole and the darn thing spun back about 15-20 feet and then off the green!!!! only to mess up my chip back and then proceeded to 2 putt for a stinky bogey.

ball is a prov1

I can't remember ever hitting a shot that got backspin. My divots are often in front of the ball, but I still haven't gotten any backspin.

yeah, when i play nicer golf courses this tends to happen. the greens are pretty slow, relatively, where i play so i don't get too much action on the greens. i'd suggest flighting the ball on a lower trajectory.

I feel so sorry for you

Try clubbing up and swing softer, you should get a little less backspin while still getting it to stop/spin and you might be a little more accurate too.

i find the lower i hit it, the MORE it spins

the higher, the less spin if i pinch it tight and toss a low chip shot in from 40-60-ish yards, it will hit, check and come back if i loft it in, it will pretty much hit and stay within inches of the divot to the OP - try the pro v1x, its a harder ball and wont spin as much as the regular pro v (if you wanna stick w Titleist) i swithced to the pro v1x for this reason....then found the magic of the TM LDP Black ball....now thats a whole other story ;)

Yea. He doesn't spin the ball back, he spins the world forwards.

yep...when I hit a low spinning shot, it will "skid"(my term) on the green and come to a pretty fast stop but it never comes back.

It's just another thing to think about before taking a swing. Like there isn't enough to worry about.

to the OP -

I played the Pro-V1x for several years for this reason. I just switched to the Bridgestone Tour B330 (since I got a great deal on a large quantity of them lol) and I really like them. Plus they seem a bit more durable.

I hit my first one the other day from about 30 yards to the green that hit the green bounced allmost upwardly then stopped and rolled like 3 inches.

You sure you didn't just hit a crisp wedge into an upslope and into the wind? A lot of tour pros don't even suck it back 20 feet. Granted, they play much firmer greens.

this green was inclined back towards me...work with me here okay 15 feet maybe? somewhere around there!

I remember hearing a while back on this forum that the problems the pros had with the now old grooves is that they got too much spin. Now the grooves actually don't handicap them.

yeah I was going to mention the green was inclined towards me, thats the reason it came back so far. if its a flat green it will spin about 3-4 feet judging from the divot.

    • Day 17 - First round of the year. It took me about 6 holes to remember how to hit off grass. Short game was lacking, but the round could’ve been much worse. It’s nice that my new “bad” is my old “good.”
    • Yes this was what I was thinking you have two golfers same 5 HC same swing speed 110Mph ...one you changed the driver head to a 10yr old model head but the same loft etc the other you changed shaft ...now if its just 10yr old shaft of the same flex weight etc it would be more so the newer head IMHO ..but if the shaft was changed to softer flex lighter than player was use to then the shaft would be the winner IMHO
    • Interesting as I only recently upgraded my Callaway EPIC Flash driver head 9.5 with a Paradym 10.5 which come with a decent Diamana 60 stiff shaft ... year ago I was playing around with shafts and settled on Ventus black X6 .. I tried out both shafts in my new driver head and even tried out Diamana in my older driver head and no way did it work for me ... I also recently after having issues with my Mizuno. MP20 nippon 105 S irons I purchased new JPX923t with heavier shaft DG 120 S I was told by PGA coach the shaft would suit my swing far better and he wasn't wrong so for me shafts matter alot more so than even heads but the difference in the heads for my clubs wasn't massive
    • Day 13 (22 Mar 25) - Gripped down short pitches (20yds or less)  with the 7i in the backyard.  Focus was simple - grip down to just above the bare shaft, quiet wrists, quiet hands and a smooth putter like stroke with ample torso turn.  Love those low flighted shots!
    • Big fan of the 1st. Trailer looks good for sequel.
