Has anyone out there ever chunked one so bad you thought that you might be able to see clear through to China where the Divot hole is?

I take pretty good divots when I hit the ball perfectly. But the last time I played I was using an 8i off the tee on a 163 yard Par 3 when I pulled my head up and swung as hard as could. I barely even felt it but when i looked down I had taken out a good strip about 4in depp and the ball went about 60yds and plopped into the water. I found the divot and it was like a full piece of saud just atrocious.

The golf pro was playing behind us and when he saw me putting it back he just shook his head and I saw him like trying to smooth it out as we putt'd out. I had never seen a divot that big and I felt bad but me and my friend couldnt help but laugh.

Seriously, though, four inches deep? You must have some pretty soft fairways with lots of rain to do that.

Mine would probably be about a few weeks ago. I went out and the course was still wet from the rain before. So took a shot with my 7I, and the divot was about an inch deep, but about a foot long. Luckily I was able to find the divot and put it back.

Do cart tire spin outs count? I've seen some jackasses leave some pretty big ones.

Yeah it had poured the day before and this was a waterside Tee. But no lie it was a freaking crater. I obviously picked up the chunk of earth and put it back but we were still schocked.

I was playing out in California in the late 1970s. I put my opening tee shot into a roughline patch of iceplant. I asked a nearby greenskeeper if I got a free drop out of the plants. He sneered and said "Nope, play it or tak an unplayable."

Just so happened I was carrying an old mashie-niblick (9-iron type from 1930s) with a clubhead about 1/4" thick and a rather sharp leading edge.

I pulled the M-N out of my bag, and chopped the ball about 100 yards into the fairway. With the shot I took an 18-inch long iceplant divot, with the roots intact underneath.

The greenskeeper yelled at me for "tearing up the course," but I responded I was only following instructions. I replaced the divot and headed down the fairway.

Focus, connect and follow through!

And he caught the ball first so that golf ball was hit so pure that it still hasn't landed. It's called the moon. (That explains all those craters.)

yee god.. Back when I first started I would swing with 100% arms and I'm a pretty big guy. Also my swing was inconsistent. I would take divots so huge my gf(who was there at the driving range) would constantly ask if it was against the rules to do so while I said no no its perfectly fine. Then i'd look over my shoulder at the club house and replace them.

My friend had a 64* wedge with 4* of bounce and the course was soaking.
For some reason I closed the face which just made things worse and the clubhead buried itself in the ground, I mean I hit the ball and then the club just stopped. That's around 2-3 inches deep.

That guy who took a 4" deep one must've bent the shaft on his club.

At a course that's still being built at my parent's place in Delaware, I took what I referred to as an ice cream scoop out of the earth on a 150 yard par 3. I was still hitting shots insanely fat back then, and I just destroyed this long piece of grass so cleanly.

I called it an ice cream scoop because the divot looked like a perfectly smooth scoop of chocolate ice cream.

Very wet out to say the least.

I wasn't very thrilled as you can imagine.

I'm an absolute digger, no, I gouge the fairway with the irons. If the course is wet at all I take divots the likes of which have not been seen since a 1974 Playboy magazine.

Hmm had to be this past year on the golf trip i take. We played two courses when it was really rainy. I think i took a divot that was somewhere near 5 inches wide, and over a foot.

Last weekend I took one about a foot or so long, and about an inch and a half deep with my 4 iron. In wet conditions, our divots were pretty big all day, but this one was the granddaddy of them all. Needless to say, I did not reach the green.

I've taken a divot the length and width of my golf shoe (size 11.5) with my 60 degree. Soft courses will do that it's inevitable. I have a picture somewhere.

Lots of divots from shots hit woefully fat. I'm talking about well struck shots... and I can carve out some beauties.
