Over the past few months he has certainly been much better than Woods.

Last few years too.

2014: Yes.

2013: No.

2012: Yes.

As a group: Yes

As far as winning majors: Without doubt (this is what I was referring to in the first place)

No he isn't!

Says the guy with four years (and four major victories) of hindsight. :P

In November, 2010 all we had was a guy who'd won… no majors (and IIRC one PGA Tour event).

So maybe it's just that the hype machine rated his potential properly back in the day. :)

True.. I didn't know anything about golf back then (or now) and the only name I probably really recognized back then was woods.. I didn't actually read any of the thread and see what people's opinions were either, just answered the question as if it is being asked now!

The OP stated Rory was going to get maybe 10-15 wins and 3 majors and basically become Lee Westwood with a prettier swing. Well he's 25...and already past that.

So to me this is the most fun thread to post his tournament win pics ;-)

If there is doubt then Jack's opinion will do for me

That's not really an opinion though. He is winning major and he is ranked #1.

Besides, I don't see how Jack's opinions matter that much more. It's all guesswork. Nobody is more qualified to guess how a career turns out more than another.

It may just be possible that Jack knows what it takes to win the odd major or two

Well.. I'm not sure about that.. I mean don't you think that someone who understands swings and mechanics and other things specific to golfing might be able to see something in someone that others can't?

Isn't that really what scouts in football, baseball and other sports do?  I would say they are more qualified at guessing how someones career turns out than you and me for example?

I'm not speaking about Jack specifically, but rather in general terms.. as someone is able to tell that a prospect might have a successful career vs. someone that might look good, but there is a flaw that they only see and can guess that it will prevent them from moving up..

On several occasions for example, I have seen Erik say to someone.. hey if you fix this than you can become an X handicap.. he is saying this out of experience, I wouldn't be able to do that with many people, not even my self really!

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-25 Did the BAD Challenge and hit a bunch more other little shots. This was one of the closer shots.
    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
