I've never seen anyone use such a short putter but thinking about it, I can see how it increases your control and might force you to swing it more like a pendulum.

Does anyone currently use a short putter like this?  Obviously it works if you're using it but I'd like to hear details and how you improved. What are your reasons for using it?

Thanks

Robert

I've tried my 4 year old daughter's putter (granted, it's not a Scotty Cameron) and it feels very easy to line up and keep on line through the stroke, not sure how my back would feel after 20 or 30 minutes on the practice green though. I liked seeing the difference in putting styles between Robert Garrigus and Jonathan Byrd.

Last summer I played with a couple of guys using face forward putters. That looked pretty cool too, but I doubt that it would work for me any better than Robert Garrigus's short putter. I'm a little over 6' 1" and a 34" putter shaft feels just right to me.

i choke all the way down on the grip of my 35" putter, so i guess thats close to having a short putter....my back is usually pretty sore, especially when i practice putting for too long...but i find it harder on my back to be bent over part way than all the way.

I used my nephew's 24 inch little loco putter one day just for gags and shot a 37 with it. It's easier to line up with, the only problem I have with it is getting the distance right with it

A guy I play with uses one...he's not a great putter, but not to say it isn't effective.  He's taken a few bucks off me in the past, lol.

I farted around with one, used (and LEFTY to boot!) at a local golf shop.

It was a Scotty head...so not junk.

I hated it. Hated it hated it hated it. Yes...it promotes a 'pendulum' swing....but for me, I couldn't align it properly, nor did I get the roll I liked - yes, I'm sure the putter loft could be adjusted, but I wasn't going to go that far. Just wasn't my thing. Interestingly, I've toyed with the idea of the belly putter on and off and might go that route with one more summer of dissapointing putting, but the short putter isn't for me.

it worked for him all week, although it did look sort of ridiculous.  Then you had Carl Peterson's putter was over 5' tall.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
