How do you celebrate a nice made putt? Or anything for that matter?

Fist pump? "Hand" Gun? The Chi-Chi Rodriguez?

Personally, I try my hardest to keep a straight face, stroll nonchalantly to the cup, pick the ball out of the hole and give my imaginary gallery a quick wave.  (Hence my quote-thingy under my avatar.)

...It sounds kind of douchey when I write it down...He he.

I usually turn to my partner and say, "Suck it."  He usually responds with, "F off."  But we give each other sh*t all the time and enjoy it.

Usually a subdued fist pump.  If it's more meaningful than just a putt made (long birdie, or wining a skin/match, etc.) then I might be more demonstrative with the fist.  If it's a partner or team competition then high fives are quite appropriate.

I chipped in for birdie from a bank behind the green on the 9th yesterday. Apparently it went something like this: "Stop! Stop! (Hits it slightly too hard into downslope) Go! Go! (Sees it rolling right on line) Yes please! Fuck me! (Nails pin, drops) Er ... sorry. (Realizes other three guys are pissing themselves laughing.)

Stretch.

If I hole a big putt that my odds are pretty tough to begin with, I usually end up laughing.

The reaction you have when you think that's the reaction you should have, what a tool. Forced, fake and the one of the reasons the Europeans win.

I'll usually do the ol' fist pump. If it's pretty big-time I'll put a little more "umph" behind it.

If it's on the 18th I'll give the gallery a wave. Anywhere else and I'm waving to the large gallery of lawnmowers.

Definitely the fist pump. Sometimes more demonstrative (Tiger-like) and sometimes more subdued (think Ray Allen).

I prefer to keep it pretty subdued - just throw the ball into the nearest hazzard, preferably water! My partner always freaks out when I do that. He doesn't understand why I would toss a perfectly good ball, especially if it is lucky. Not much of an issue for me though, since I take one from my partner's bag before we start the match for just such an occasion.

Lighten up, bro.

This will make me sound like an old fart, but I just go pick the ball out of the cup.  I play a lot with my brother and dad, so any celebration with them around doesn't seem appropriate.

What makes you think his reaction was forced and fake? I never got that impression at all. The Europeans won because they played better golf, plain and simple. If I were ever honored enough to play for my country, I'd probably get caught up in the moment too. I didn't see anything wrong with Overton's reaction, thought it was pretty awesome actually. To be quite honest, I wouldn't mind seeing a little more emotion shown in big moments, all around.

Taken out of context (i.e. watching a youtube video) it does seem rather contrived and over the top, but certainly no worse than the Flying Molinari Brothers or Ian Poulter. The entire Ryder Cup seemed a bit forced and fake.  Maybe it was the weather and the location of the golf course?!?!?

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
