At the range for the first time, had a hard time hitting the ball. It was strange since i was doing well at my lessons over the weekend. So i decided to do this drill the pro told me.

Take the club back so its at waist high, add a bit more hinge. From there, just turn through the ball keeping your left arm connected to your chest. I did this and the ball was exploding off the clubface. Just those half swings like that were going far. I did that for about 10 short shots, then i would take a full swing and remember that feeling with the left arm, and it was amazing. Such great contact with the ball.

Thanks for posting the drill Saevel.  I'll have to try that out next time I'm at the range.

A body powered swing is the best IMO.  The arms do none of the swinging, except for the forearm muscles being used in the release.

A drill about impact is always welcome.

Thank you

Shorter swings are very often useful in finding a good feeling, the difficult part is to get the same moves and feelings into the full swing.

How does that work when the arms travel farther than the body? The arms go from being in front of the body, to the side of it at the backswing, then in front of it again at impact That won't happen without the arms swinging.

What release?

Well do the drill...

Position 1, hands at waist high. Left arm tight againts the chest, hinge the club a bit more to mimic the lag in the downswing

Then just swing down like you normally would, but make sure your left arm does not come off that chest. Then what happens is, at impact your hand will be infront of your left thigh, ahead of the ball, flat to the target. Next is to just finish.

Release is overrated to me. What release means your not holding onto the club before contact. Because if your clubface produces solid conctact, draw or fade, then right after your hands flip and you over release. Doesn't matter, you'll hit it at what happened at contact.

But with that drill, i try to focus on my left hand turning over, not my right hand rotatint or breaking down my left wrist. I am so right hand dominant, i have to keep it out of the equation.

Thanks for the post.  That's the drill Dave Wedzik had me do for 3 hours at the Boston S&T School last summer.  I go back to it whenever things go south.  It's amazing how far the ball will go with that little effort.

Well what helped me was, going from hitting insane cuts to the right, they didn't seem like hozel rockets to me. But then doing that drill and feeling proper impact. I will remember that one. Its also an easy drill to practice inside.

Go to the local golf store and look for these orange callaway golf balls, there foam. You can hit them indoors. What i do is hange a blanket againts a door and hit them into it. No sounds, no wierd bounces, and the ball has some decent feel to it.

Thanks.

Another good drill it tucking a golf glove under your left arm, it give me a better feeling of my arms and body through the impact zone, i only use this on 1/2 swings at most and chipping around the green

Momentum plays a big part.  Actually the arms are more to the side of the body at impact.

I would not try to paraphrase the entire instruction in a forum.

Read it and try it: "The Golf Swing and Its Master Key Explained" by Noel Thomas

When I first read it, I was thinking that it could not be that simple, but it is.

Momentum means the hips start, then the arms gain speed and catch up with the rest of the body, they won't do that by themselves. The shoulders may be a bit open at impact, but the hands are definitely in front of the body at impact.

Yep, thats my issue, my hands don't drop on the inside well enough, and at impact the are at my midsection, not at my front thigh (ahead of the ball). I loose my flying wedge as it is put here. So i am practicing keeping my hinge, and not flipping it at the ball. When i do this, i absolutely crush the ball. I was just impressed how much more power you get with out muscling it.

I went to the golf galaxy here, they got a new simulator, and its accurate. I was impressed. It had me distance down to with in 5 yards, very impressive. So i tried out a new driver, i am tech nut job. I hit one with my old swing, i got my usual distance, but it felt like my usual muscling the ball. Then i tried a few practice swings with holding that wrist hinge. I also concentrated on just hitting is smooth. I got the same distance with less effort, and contact felt better.

I just hope i can make this move habit.

I went to the range last night with the thought of giving this a try as well as working on the technique I had started to groove the end of last season that was working well for better contact and quick stopping balls.  Guess what!  Same technique!  What I was / am doing is slightly different, mostly as to when I cock my wrists but otherwise very similar.  That's kind of cool to me, to figure out this on my own.

Is this similar to the drill you are doing? This is the Tour Tempo Y drill
