Just when I thought spring was starting and I'd be able to start playing soon, the weather had different plans.  Just got like 10-15cm (4-6 inches) of snow and its -3C or 27F.  I envy you guys that are playing already.  (I live in Toronto, Canada).

I'm over in Guelph and I feel the same pain.  I heard rumours of some ranges down in Oakville/Burlington actually being OPEN last week.

I'm actually in Hamilton right now for school, pretty close to Guelph, so we probably got the same amount of snow pretty much.  As much as i like winter, I need it to be over haha, I want to get some range time at least!!

I moved the thread for you. Luckily where I am we have no snow anymore, but this rain is annoying.

I can't imagine not playing for more than a couple weeks, let alone a whole season. In socal, we have everything from waves to snow. couple hours apart, but still great.

Not playing for a whole season really hurts your game haha.  Takes me a quarter of the year just to get back to as good as I used to be.  This winter I've been swinging a club constantly, so hopefully i can get back into the groove faster.

I feel the same, in Northern Maine. Everything was melting nicely and then we received a couple inches over the past few days. Our temps through Sunday don't get any higher then 32F. It is quickly getting frustrating, between heating oil prices and the snow not melting fast enough so we can get outside, it's making this winter extremely difficult. Can not wait to get back out!

Amen to that.  I keep telling my girlfriend that anytime she wants to take a job in a place with shorter winters would be fine with me!  I actually like winter but its about 2 months too long for my liking.

In PA, we got 5 inches today & expecting more tonight.    I'm glad I played 18 for the 1st time last saturday at the only course open in my area.     It was cold, windy & I practically had the place to myself ... hit 3 pars in a row (should have had 4, but I choked on a 5 footer) ... wooooooot !       Good start for my 2nd season...

aren't there any indoor driving ranges in the area where you guys live? I know in a lot of asian country's, they have indoor driving ranges for winter time.

I've been hitting balls about once a week in the closest golf dome to me.  Unfortunately that is 30 minutes away and costs about $25CAD per hour (unlimited balls).  It's better than nothing and at least scratches the itch.  This is the first winter I've done it and I noticed I seem to have developed a tendency to pick the ball rather than take a divot.  Hopefully I can get away from that when the grass ranges open up again.

This dome actually isn't too bad, you get to see about 65-70 yards of carry.  On irons and even some hybrids I can see that my shot was starting to draw or fade as intended, which is nice.  It actually could be quite a bit more, they have the tee decks about halfway down the dome as it also contains a full 18 hole mini-putt and a nice batting cage.

But it's definitely mostly about keeping the swing grooved in (and scratching the golf itch! :D).

    • Day 137 - Upper back was tight today so I did some more pitching work. Really working on letting the club fall instead of forcing it.
    • Day 39: Same thing as previous post, with a 5-iron for about 15 minutes. Feel pretty good about progress so far, so spent another 20+ minutes working on short game shots, which I have been really struggling with on course lately.
    • Day 316: mirror work for a while. Working on getting my hips more open and my hands down faster in the downswing.
    • My short game is no longer a dumpster fire. It’s bordering on being the best part of my game at this point. I still need to stay out of the bunkers but I’m starting to hit shots to makeable distances (if only I could putt). I’ve pretty much gotten the three releases down. My feels for the releases: Drive the handle forward. I haven’t used this one too much lately. Left hand pulls the club. This is my standard motion. Right hand pushes the club. I use this occasionally for flop shots. I’m still in the process of learning how the ball reacts on the green with different shots so there’s plenty of room for improvement. The contact is clean so I’ll be able to dial it in with experience. The most important thing is to slow my tempo down. Way down. I need to bring the club back slowly so that momentum doesn’t put the clubhead in weird places. Not trying to create lag around the greens. Full swing has kind of fallen off but I haven’t practiced much lately. I’ll probably try to get some time in before the Ohio outing.
    • Day 146: 5/21/24 Putting through gates for distance control and chipping practice indoors.
