Should Top Players Play the PGA Tour instead of the Euro Tour?

I have mixed feelings here i think Kaymer,Rory,Graeme should play in the states. I don't see the Euro tour being as deep as the pga which in my opinion makes it easier for the euros to place well in tournaments. As a result to placing well means higher golf rankings. I was just watching some of the Malaysian open and the guys that the top european players are playing against aren't close to as good as the players on the pga tour. I have to say they do have the last four majors and i am not saying they are not good. I just fell the best players should be playing on the best and deepest tour on the planet which is the pga tour.

First off, the rankings do take into account the strength of field.  A win at a WGC tournament counts more than a win at an alternate tournament played the same weekend, like Reno-Tahoe or Puerto Rico.

But, players should be able to play wherever they want.  Most will play in the majors and the WGC events. That's 8 times a year.  If someone wants to stay closer to home in Europe (they have families, too) and want to make appearance fees as well as tournament winnings, that's their business.

You are a huge Tiger fan.  Do you think Tiger's current tour of Asia is because he enjoys 18 hours flights? No, it's about marketing the brand and the appearance money.  Why should he even consider playing in San Antonio? They can't offer him enough money, plain and simple.

If the top players are not playing in the US, how can it be easier to win in Europe?  Does not compute.

Seems to me that the current four major title holders are all European Tour regulars.

Should they? No. They can play where ever they want. I would like to see them, because it makes for better TV, but who could blame them for wanting to play on a continent that they grew up on, have families on, and live on? A bunch of European born players do in fact mainly play the U.S. tour. Coincidentally, they are also the ones that live here.

I never said that the top players are in europe. They euros have more guys in the top ten.To reach the top ten you need to win or place well to move up the rankings. The european tour by far is weaker in depth which means it is easier for the Kaymer's and  Donald's to place well which means they will get more points that go towards the world ranking system. I just personally think the european tour is the jv league golf. Topplayers in the world should play with the very best which is on the pga tour.

That is nothing to do with anything. I never said they weren't talented i just think they should be playing on the biggest golf stage in the world.

That makes no sense because even if Tiger wasn't in asia he still wouldn't be playing this week.  All i am saying is that i think the best players should be on the pga tour not the euro tour. You really can't tell me that the euro tour is just as competitive as the pga tour.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Luke Donald is a member of the PGA Tour.  Has been for 5 years.

So? He lives in Chicago and plays far more PGA Tour tournaments than European Tour tournaments. His standing in the Race To Dubai is entirely due to him winning an early season co-sanctioned event (in America), the WGC Matchplay.

I'm trying to think of a single reason why players who live in Europe or S.Africa or wherever, or players who prefer to play the European Tour "should " play anywhere except where they want to play. You are demonstrating serious lack of knowledge about golf. Has it occurred to you that some players do not consider the PGA Tour the "best tour on the planet"? Your claim that there is a "lack of depth" on the euro tour is nonsense. Look at the world rankings. Not every golfer wants to live a million miles from home. They aren't all chasing dollars all the time. Please explain this "lack of depth" You must mean that there are lots of plays with funny names that you can't pronounce, because you aren't making a lot of sense. What are you basing your opinions on? Please explain why it is easier to win on the European Tour.

How is the PGA Tour 'deeper' than the Euro Tour?

You can't be serious! Let's have one reason why it isn't. You need to broaden your horizons. If the Euro Tour is so easy, why aren't all of the struggling American pros going over there to chalk up a few easy wins and climb up the rankings? There is nothing to support your ridiculous comments.

Sorry;  I thought you meant more that doing so would be better for their games (e.g., they'll get better by playing PGA TOUR competition every week instead of some U.S. and some Euro).

BTW, multi-quote will make these easier for you -- hit "multi" on a bunch of posts you want to reply to, then "quote" on one of them, and they'll all be one reply.

How can YOU be serious? All the best of everything is in America. Don't let the typical chart toppers in music, the movies, literature, television programs, and automobiles cloud your judgment.

Not at all. I'd rather have two tours with players from the OWGR top 50 than one where everyone played. I enjoy watching both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. It makes majors and WGC events more interesting when it's the only events where all the good players play together.

    • If I can take a full swing, I'll use the stock club for that yardage.  I can't really get creative.  Just don't have that ability.  In the past, I used a sand wedge for all my shots around the green, opening or closing the face and moving the ball back or forward in my stance to get the flight I wanted.  I am trying now to use different clubs around the green.  I'm less likely to flub it but I struggle with distance control.  More practice required.
