I'm not an instructor but it doesn't look good at all. I think iacas said above that he doesn't turn but also he has no power and his sequencing is all weid. I'd bet he hits it no where and I can see how he has so many problems with his driver with that flat whips action.

Yeah, for a single digit his swing is kind of weak.

Too bad no one will do a plan where someone would spend hours of smart and real dedicated practice to get to the level where if you played Dan heads up over 20 rounds that you would win.

Anyone want to guess how many it would take them?

You mean to get better than his reported handicap, or just to be able to beat him stroke play the majority of the 20 rounds you play him?
This is not how I pictued the Dan Plan to play out at all. I thought that Dan would struggle for quite a while at first and then progress quite quickly to about a 4 handicap. The main difference though is that I thought his swing would look very good on video and he would hit a wall of sorts trying to figure out how to get down to scratch and have lots of people comment something like "well your swing is pretty good, you should be able to shoot lowered then that"
I think it's just that "twitchy" thing he does at the end of his swing that makes it look pretty stupid. If he just swung then stopped twitching around after his swing, it doesn't really look all that bad to me.

Twitch to me looks like an instructor told him fire bottom just as you finish bs and he overdid it.

I doubt it, since Dan doesn't take many lessons it probably just a bad habit he picked up

That's another thing that irritates me about this. Not only is he not dedicated to his practice, it's also quite obvious that he didn't come up with a viable financial plan for the project. Formulating a realistic five years budget probably wouldn't be the most fun activity but I think it is a pretty important component if this project were ever to have a chance of being successful. Instead of relying on donations and flying to different places for fun, I mean, to raise awareness to increase his donor base, he should have focused on making sure he had enough money at the start so that certain facets of this plan that would be vital to its success were covered, like getting coaching regularly. I'm not saying it would have been easy but apparently he didn't do this which makes me question his real motivation for going through with this project. From my perspective, The Dan Plan isn't a well thought out plan.

Anyone know a ballpark range of how much a guy trying to get on web.com/minor league tour pay for instruction in a year typically?

As far as an accurate / realistic charting of his progress, shouldn't he do a Trackman Combine to get a realistic sense of where he stands relative to the PGA Tour and the other hopefuls out there who have put up numbers?

When are people going to realise that this sort of thing is the LAST thing he is going to do.

He is not even good enough to be in the final 16 of any decent A grade golf club championship in the world.

His "plan" is a fantasy, an illusion where he can talk about certainty and "feelings" etc.

Why would he do something that proves what a joke his quest is.

He will become a better than average player - a good single digit player. That's it. And that's possibly better than many people expected.

I seriously think he is so strange that he doesn't actually see what good players do and he certainly has no respect for the guys who are good enough to play on tour because he thinks the difference between him and them is a couple of years.

He sent me a VERY strange email, BTW.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I made a post on his site about him whingeing about not attracting sponsors.

He basically said that Titleist was exploiting him - referring to himself as  the "world's cheapest billboard".

I asked what it was that he thought he had to offer and why he thought he was worthy of sponsorship. What was in it for the sponsors, pointing out that it is a two way street and that "he who makes the gold makes the rules", essentially. All in a fair and reasonable (for me) manner ;-)

Naturally, this post was "moderated" (meaning deleted).

A few weeks later I got an email from him saying "Who are you? What is it that you do?"

Nothing more, nothing less. I call it strange because he had an opportunity to probe into why I was a critic. Perhaps get some perspective from an outsider. Instead, he implied that I was a bit odd. Stop grinning, you guys. NOW! :-)

As is his pattern - he doesn't address specifics, he talks in generalities. I think he probably is on the Asperger's spectrum. Not a big deal and certainly not a criticism, but he can't focus.

Certainly not on reality - and the irony is that his "plan" is supposedly all about focus.

Unfortunately (and predictably) he focuses on anything but what he needs to in order to become a decent player. He wants the fantasy, but can't handle the truth, so he concentrates on warm fuzzies and bullshit.

I almost vomited when I heard him say in the very recent video that he still expected to play on the PGA Tour and was adamant about it.

I'm sorry Shorty, 'he is probably on the Asperger's spectrum'? That came out of nowhere tbh. Being rude/ not very sociable (in your experience, mine are different) is far from having an autism spectrum disorder. Aside from that, not focussing on what we think (yes, me too) is the right thing, doesn't mean someone isn't able to focus at all. I think it is more logical to assume that Dan is invested in the approach he has taken from Day 1 and is finding it difficult to leave that path if a better one reveals itself. The step to do the Vision54 training is in my opinion a step in the right direction, but far from a complete overhaul of the approach (which he might need).

If you almost vomited on that statement, check this out: http://golfuniversity.tv/

Dan is listed as one of the coaches, I wonder if he does have the ability to coach?

In any case, his wimpy looking swing seems to get him reasonable high single digit scores.

BTW, the fact that he emailed you is pretty cool. The content was a little disturbing to say the least. . .

If he's a coach for that Golf University, I sure hope he isn't getting paid... That would throw a wrench into his tournament plans for the coming year if he was.

How can he possibly coach.... Doesn't he need some credentials etc. ?

He has credentials - he is Dan.

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

What's in the bag: Callaway X2 Hot Driver, Titleist 915F 3 wood, X2 Hot 3 Hybrid, 3, 5-AW Apex Pro irons, 54*, 58* Cleveland RTX, Odyssey Versa 1 Putter

Hahahahah this is great. Well I think Dan needs a student for his first lesson and I'm pretty sure we could all agree on who that should be. So what do you say shorty? You up for taking a lesson from Dan

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
