Good stuff. Thanks Erik.

Why would a round grip cause any problems? Square grips actually cause more problems because they're almost never square, so your brain gets mixed signals.

At times the flat sided grip gives comfort that you are aligned correctly and validates your eyes. Not having that sometimes leads me to questioning my setup. Mind you, it is me, not the putter...but in the end it affects the the end result at times. It is the thinking too much effect...:-P

That is indeed an aim bias but not really the same thing as what we're talking about here... :D

I know, but this also effects my putting as well. I know this thread is more of the putter face aligning offline due to what our eye's think is right, but i tend to aim putts to the right no matter what my clubface is aimed at.

I personally like a round grip, since i re-grip my own clubs, i don't worry about making putter grip perfect. Also, there is more of a selection of round grips, I personally like the Excel Winn grip, and i use a larger grip than i would for a normal club. I like this grip because its soft in the hands, and its the least tapered round grip. I also think the round grip helps people form there own gripping style on the club. I found the square grip a hinderence if i wanted to tweek my putting grip, i like the uniformity of a round grip.

And no, your aim doesn't change over time, or at least, we've never seen it... unless you somehow get into a bizarre extreme setup position. :D

Excellent point. I golfed with a lefty yesterday who had a real nice putter he let me try. Major difference in feel, weight, feedback etc. I will probably make it a point to get fitted sometime next year. You're still located in Erie, PA? I grew up in Chautauqau County, NY not too far from there and usually bring the family up every summer. I may have to pay you a visit for a fitting.

Very good thread. I been practicing my putting and notice I very much like to aim left and make compensation to square my putter I always have confidence when I try to aim left edge or just left of the cup on a breaking putt On the opposite breaker I tend to circle the cup and close my eyes cause when I try to aim right I always miss.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭

    • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
