The one place I could see club damage happening is in riding carts and hitting a lot of pot holes, etc. at a high rate of speed. Also, the infamous forgetting to strap in the bag on the riding cart. It’s an ugly (and embarrassing) sight seeing the bag lying there like a fallen soldier.

When I carry my bag, the bouncing from walking is enough that all my irons chatter and I've got marks on the graphite shafts on some old clubs.  It wouldn't take an enormous force to damage a graphite shaft on a sharp-edged putter head, just some bad luck.  That's the main reason why I cover the putter.  I also don't feel comfortable with the insert taking even occasional dings from other clubs, something I don't worry about with other clubs.

I use one in transport on my Odyssey because the face can get marred up if the irons or wedges shift. When walking on the course it's 100% unnecessary because of where I put it in the bag, so it [the cover] stays in the bag. It's not that it's a hassle or that I'm against them, it's just simply not necessary so it seems a little ocd to do it every time.

For me a putter cover is worth it, but only because I carry my bag and tend to walk fast enough to get the everything clanking around a good bit and being a dawn patroller I really don't like the noise. So I have covers for all my clubs, but tend to leave them off my commonly used clubs after their first use; having even half the clubs covered cuts down that "wandering iron monger" racket plenty. That said, my putter cover is magnetic and so easy to take off/on that I tend to keep the putter covered just because it's no more time consuming than not

If pushed my bag, I doubt I'd cover any of them—outside an airport.

ROFLMAO!!!  Same with me.  In fact, after losing two covers, I stopped using it altogether.  Now the only thing with a cover is my driver and my 3 wood to protect the graphite shaft.

Putter cover is pain in the you know where.  And when you walk, you are bound to lose it someday.

The rhythmic back forth from walking can damage the graphite shafts and putter just as much as riding in a cart. I walked 5-6 rounds for a week for 8 years for juniors, high school, college and competitive amateur golf.  I have several graphite shafts with distinct wear marks are them all from walking.

    • Day 292: light day today. Mirror work, working on getting my hips more open in the downswing.
    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
    • Day 7- Went to the range and hit a bucket. Also did some chipping and putting.
