Dude . . c'mon . . . Hate?

Sure he has an injury but of course he is faking it when citing it as the sole reason for the WD.  The fact is that he and his team of doctors are very on top of his injuries and he showed up this week, played a practice round and thought he was well enough to play.  Then he pulls a WD after only 9 of 72 holes.  Suiting up and quitting immediately is not the same thing as "playing hurt".  Tiger is no Brett Farve.

Tiger WD because A.  He shot himself out of the tournament in the first 9 holes and B. because he has an injury

If A didn't happen then B wouldn't be an issue.  He is using B to cover up for A.

Successful sports entities tend to attract a lot of hate. Tiger may not have been successful as of late, but his career as a whole certainly has been.

Same here. I'll be a little hesitant if I see him in the field for the Memorial, but I'll be excited just the same.

No surprise that Tiger WDs already, his recovery seemed too quick. Won't see him until the US Open now.

It seem some people just don't have much trust in others.  Hey, but to his/her own.

I've had a couple of knee surgeries and I know how it is.  One day it feels fine and the next day out of the blue you feel pain.

I believe that Tiger WD because of his injury and he didn't want to risk further damage before the US Open.

Must the Nike-sponsored athletes banding together -- looks like he's been taking tips from Michelle Wie on how to "injure" yourself when you're playing poorly

Admit that you quit because you aren't playing well you big faker!!

The only thing separating Tiger from John Daly right now is the tearful parking lot interview where he quits golf (again).

...that and 12 majors, 66 PGA Tour wins, and $85,368,762 in tour earnings. I'll give Tiger the benefit of the doubt. Tiger may be a shadow of his former self but it's because he set the bar so ridiculously high. JD, on the other hand, was just plain high.

Potential 5th ACL operation? On the same knee?

If so, then his career is definately approaching it's conclusion...2 years, tops.

Maybe after the current flareup calms down, he just needs a better knee brace and some better pain killers. What would Steve Yzerman do?

Well, I no-one likes to see careers ending through injury...so let's hope so.
He's not going to do it, but I'd like to see him at least give the 18 Majors target a worthy shot...

We can all agree that it's injuries that are hurting him at the moment and not his putting or his swing.

You're welcome.

Proof that this forum now needs a "thumbs down" button.

This is just more of the Tiger hate we see going on. It's truly sad that people celebrate something like this as though they've won something. This is what happened each day on TGCDB and the reason it was shut down.  Over at 4gea.com there is celebration today as well by a few who love to hate Woods and they celebrate anything bad that happens with him. I for one think Tiger should just retire, focus on his foundation and learning centers, watch the tv contract implode, and have people blaming him for it as they scramble for sponsors and money. Of course, golf will be just fine without him, albeit for a lot less money.

TPC Sawgrass is one of the few things with holes that Eldrick has pulled out of in a few years.

I'm siding with Tiger here- 6 months post ACL reconstruction, I started playing golf again and did ok for a couple of rounds.  Then I played a hilly course with my dad and had a really weird feeling in the knee when I hit a shot from a awkward lie- couldn't make a mentally comfortable left handed swing after that and ended up playing the rest of the round with my dad's right handed clubs.

Gotta say Brian, that judging from all your posts on TST so far, it isn't making me want to check out your blog.    There just doesn't seem to be any thought behind them or cohesive argument or discussion on any of them....just some quick lines tossed out that don't mean anything.

I just had 2 hernias repaired yesterday and am so sore today that I can barely move without pain. And that's WITH the pain meds. I can't imagine trying to play golf, hitting a golf ball on a damaged knee and achilles.  I won't be ready for swinging for at least 2 weeks if not 4-6 according to the docs and research.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here and feel he should take a year off, get healthy both physically and mentally, and decide how bad he wants this anymore.

6 over thru 9? and from the CHIP shots I saw.. WoW..  If I was him I would come up with something too to excuse that embarrassment.. I have played injured myself with a herniated disc, and my short game never looked that bad.. He hasn't played since the Master's right?  So where did this injury come from, making a bowl of cereal in the morning?  lol I'm sorry, I'm not buying excuses..  This smells just like the LeBron James mystery shoulder injury that no scan or MRI could confirm.. As I recall last years WD was from a unconfirmed ache as well.. Wasn't it?

I didn't read much into it, but Tiger is already out, shot a 42 on front 9, and withdrew from the Players Championship...

I wouldn't say he's getting better at all.  That's sad...

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
