I played for the first time almost exactly two years ago -- got hooked, and when my father-in-law found out he said, "You need to read Hogan's 5 Lessons."

I started out with "Top Flite" starter set.  When I first broke 100, I decided I would try to put together a complete bag of Hogan clubs -- and I did.

CS3 Driver

C455 3-wood, 5-wood

BH-5 irons (3-PW)

54 and 58 degree Hogan Riviera wedges

"The Hawk" putter

I figured that the equipment really wouldn't matter until I had a much more consistent swing, and since the Hogan brand had been phased out by Callaway, I managed to put the whole bag together for cheap.

It turns out that, after trying several other brands, I actually really like my Hogan clubs.  ...and I just bought a set of Apex Plus irons that I really enjoy hitting!

I set up a bag to keep at my parents' place (they live 1600 miles away), and I mixed that one up (Callaway woods, BH-5 irons, Hippo wedges, el cheapo driver, TaylorMade putter).

Exactly this. Especially when I was playing golf for my high school. Kids would have (insert brand here)-everything. The bag, the clubs, everything. And every single one that was like that was a tool. Get over yourself... you play golf for your high school, good for you, you aren't sponsored by Nike or Callaway or Titleist for damn sure... and your game isn't even good enough to back the clubs up.

I play a Callaway driver, Nike wood, Titleist irons, Cleveland wedges, and a Ping putter. I play those clubs because I like the way they feel and because I play them well. I guess if it's an entire set of Callaways or w/e that does that for someone, good for them, but I bet at some point they were persuaded by their favorite tour pro or various commercials or "statistics" that ALL of the clubs Callaway makes are the best possible clubs out there for them

There are a few club makers that seem to try and brainwash gullible consumers that they're better for you than whatever you're hitting now, regardless of how well your current clubs fit your game and your eye. The ones that stand out to me as the worst offenders (just my take - no flaming please) are PING (Hunter Mahan can F-off), Titleist (balls - I put so much into my game - suck it), Taylor Made (e.g R11 ads),

There are always 10-11 Titleist clubs in my bag, I have a Titleist bag, glove and play Pro V1x. I also always carry 2 Nike clubs and the 14th could be from almost any manufacturer depending on my mood / course I am playing that day.

Most of my shirts are Nike, pants generally Loudmouth and the Nike hats seem to last a lot longer than the Titleist ones.

I have tried several other brands and in each case these are what ended up being best for me (even if they were benched a year or two before they went back in the bag)

I don't think it is completely asinine to want your clubs to match.

I do however think it is completely asinine to pick your favorite logo, or player's brand, and then go buy each and every one of their top of the line products with no research or testing.

I also couldn't care any less about the brand of my golf clothes. Even if I had a full bag of Nike clubs I wouldn't pay for their goddam clothes. They want to charge me three times more to have little swoosh on my chest? No thanks.

The only brand loyalty I have is hybrids - I love Adams stuff.      The rest of my gear I got on sale for killer prices.     To me, getting a great deal on quality equipment makes for far more enjoyable golfing - I will NEVER buy current year gear when 2 year old gear can be had at 1/5 the price...

I'm a little ocd so I like certain things to match.  I want my wedges to be the same, my irons obviously, and prefer my driver/fairway/hybrids to match.  Right now I play Mizuno irons and Titleist everything else just because that is what I'm really liking at the moment.  I like the consistent look of my hybrid, fairway, and driver having the same look and setup.  That being said I'm not 100% sold on the 3 wood yet so that could change, but I love the driver and hybrid so those aren't going anywhere.  So I'm not a brand loyalist, even if I do play a lot from Titleist right now, I just like some consistency in my bag.

I'll do you one better than having mismatched clubs in the bag. Do any of you have club head covers which don't even match the clubs they cover? For example my Titleist 906F2 3W has a Cleveland head cover. My nickent 5dx hybrid has a 3dx head cover. My old Scotty Cameron studio design #2 has a no logo black cover. I got over appearances and trying to keep up appearances over 20 years ago when I got out of high school.

I don't hold it against anyone who has matching stuff though. I did get a chuckle out of the 5 Cleveland head covers I saw in one bag (Cleveland of course!) yesterday.

I have a friend that actually puts acuity head covers over all of his name brand equipment figuring a thief would just move along if he saw his bag

I havent had all one brand of clubs in my bag since the starter set 15+ years ago.  I am like most people who have responded and will put in my bag what works regardless of the name on the club.  Although more recently (last 3 golf seasons), I have begun matching my driver and fairway wood.  I am sure its mental, but I feel better over my 3w when it has a similar profile to my driver.  I guess now that I think about it, my bag is as consolidated now as it ever has been between Taylor Made and Titleist.

I play a Nike driver, Nike 3 wood, Titleist 3-PW, 3, 4, and 5 Adams Hybrid,  Vokey Wedges, and a Ping PAL 4 putter. The reason my clubs are mixed is because i took whatever deal i could buy when these were for sell and honestly i love every single club i have. Now if i did have alot of money just for golf clubs I still wouldnt stick to one brand.

Why wouldn't people have lots of brands in their bag?  They're tools, and they're all slightly different.

Some people just want to use what works best for them... if that means a Callaway driver, Adams woods, Titleist irons, Cleveland wedges, and a Ping putter in a Sun Mountain bag then so be it.

Other people like everything to match...

I suppose that I'm somewhere in the middle... I really do like having everything matching but I'd rather play good golf (which I still don't).  But for instance, I have a Titleist irons, putter, and bag...  I wouldn't use the Titleist bag if I didn't have any Titleist sticks to put in it. (Right when I first got the bag I had Hogan irons, but I still had the Scotty putter so that was enough for me).

I have only been playing a couple of years and I guess I was a TaylorMade tool. Except for my Ping putter. I recently broke into the 90's and decided to reward myself with some new irons.

I went to several places with intentions of buying Burner Irons to replace my 10 plus year old Burner Supersteels. Finally walked out of Golfsmith with Mizuno MX 1000's. For me they blew everything else, especially the TM's, out of the water. Now the only TM I own is my driver and a hat. Mizuno irons, Titleist wedges, Ping 3w, and TaylorMade driver. All generic head covers. All my clothes come from Ross Dress For Less. I have a friend who plays an entire set of Academy Sports brand, Acuity I think, and wears Nike clothes from head to toe. I am now in the mid to low 90's and he is still in the 120's.
